About The Position

Under the supervision and management of the Controller, the Property Management Staff Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions required to enter all receivables, process payables and produce monthly financial statements for our multifamily property portfolio. Accuracy and timeliness in the completion of the workload is required in this position. Strong communication skills, good work ethic, analytical thinking, and at least 5 years of experience are required. Experience in the real estate development and/ or property management field is required.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work under time constraints
  • Strong project management, analytical and research skills with a demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception through completion
  • 5+ years of accounting and/or management experience; multi-family experience a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in supervisory role and managing staff
  • Proficient in Appfolio property management software or other similar property management software
  • General office, bookkeeping and sales skills
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Corporate Accounting experience required
  • Must be detail oriented and able to focus with frequent interruptions
  • Maintains confidence and protects operations of business by keep information confidential
  • Ability to operate in an open work area with moderate everyday noise
  • Ability to work from multiple locations
  • Ability to perform other duties as required

Responsibilities

  • Process Security Deposit Dispositions as needed
  • Review income registers for residents and commercial tenants for late fee posting, NSF charges and payment information
  • Assist with monthly or quarterly owner funds disbursements
  • Reconcile various bank and financial accounts with vendors, credit companies and various others
  • Facilitate and provide input for annual budgeting and prepare reforecasting
  • Attend various property management meetings
  • Assist with Asset Management tasks as requested
  • Approve accounts payable invoice coding, amount, and source funds
  • Discuss payments with Residents via phone or email and answer rent & payment-related questions
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare month-end accounting statements
  • Manage AP/AR processes for renovations, including construction management and draw requests
  • Review monthly reporting from managers for errors and omissions
  • Record monthly journal entries and adjusting entries as required
  • Prepare monthly financial statements according to GAAP reporting standards
  • Compile monthly financial packages with required supporting documentation
  • Prepare monthly cash flow statements in Appfolio
  • Maintain Rent Roll data
