Staff Accountant (Construction)

About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with a strong background in the construction industry to support our growing accounting team. This role will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, job cost tracking, and financial reporting. Experience with Sage 100 or ComputerEase is highly preferred.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2–5 years of accounting experience, with construction industry experience required
Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and project-based accounting
Experience with Sage 100 or ComputerEase
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
Knowledge of GAAP principles
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

Experience with subcontract billing, AIA billing, and retainage tracking
Exposure to multi-entity or multi-project accounting environments
CPA or CPA track (a plus, not required)

Responsibilities

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including month-end and year-end close processes
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
Support job costing and project accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of construction project expenses and revenues
Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and assist with revenue recognition
Process invoices, subcontractor pay applications, and lien waivers
Assist with accounts payable and receivable activities as needed
Partner with project managers to review budgets, forecasts, and cost variances
Prepare financial reports and support internal/external audits
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
Assist with process improvements and system enhancements
