About The Position

Adolfson and Peterson Construction is currently hiring for a Staff Accountant to be based out of our office in Bloomington. This role will be responsible for supporting regional accounting functions for our Midwest and Southwest Regions including budgeting, forecasting, subcontractor payments and relations, and/or project accounting including, but not limited to, job cost and revenue processing, tracking, and review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field and 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the A/E/C industry.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen, including experience creating financial analyses for business decision support.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
  • Developed skills (written, oral, and listening) in order to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under time constraints.
  • Ability to drive to the core of complex issues and provide insightful and constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software preferred.
  • Ability to travel to other regions on an infrequent basis.

Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for working safely within an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
  • Keep financial operations of the region compliant with company expectations, processes, and controls.
  • Comply with internal financial processes.
  • Collaborate with project teams to maximize the profit potential on all work performed by AP.
  • Comply with mitigation steps resulting from the project risk assessment.
  • Assist with the preparation of project billings, job cost tracking, and cash flow management analyses.
  • Build, update, and communicate financial forecasts with the appropriate level of detail.
  • Review job cost summaries and profit projections to ensure financial integrity; evaluate and compare earned revenue and billings; validate final contract values.
  • Prepare work in progress and completed contract schedules for small projects.
  • Monitor project budget set-ups for compliance and capture costs.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for monthly project progress billings and payment applications.
  • Partner with the regional operations team by providing financial audits and project forecasting and analyses.
  • Create and/or update financial tracking tools and reports for each project.
  • Work with project leaders to understand and explain actual costs versus planned costs.
  • Review and supervise subcontractor and vendor payments and performance.
  • Review subcontract terms and language for consistency and compliance with company financial expectations.
  • Monitor subcontractor joint check agreements, tax levies, and bankruptcy notices.
  • Monitor payments and pay discounts to subcontractors, including, but not limited to, verifying that all required supporting documentation (i.e. lien waivers, credit information, Rider C, and signed subcontracts) has been received.
  • Assist in the resolution of contractor disputes.
  • Respond to subcontractor audit and surety confirmation requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.
