Staff Accountant

Highway Horticulture, LLC•Marshall, MI

About The Position

Highway Horticulture is a vertically integrated cannabis company operating in Michigan. We manage every stage of the product lifecycle: we cultivate cannabis plants at our grow facility, manufacture them into a range of wholesale products at our processing facility, and sell directly to consumers through our retail store. That end-to-end model gives our team a distinct, complete view of how a cannabis business runs, from seed to sale. We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the CFO, you will own the day-to-day recording of transactions on both sides of the business: accounts payable (vendor bills and payments) and accounts receivable (sales invoices and cash receipts). This is an entry-level role and an excellent starting point for someone who wants to build a strong accounting foundation in a fast-growing, exciting industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent coursework or experience
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles, including debits and credits
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Comfort with Excel or Google Sheets
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage your time in a remote setting
  • Current Michigan resident
  • At least 21 years of age

Nice To Haves

  • 0–5 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or internship experience
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar
  • Interest in the cannabis industry or in other regulated industries

Responsibilities

  • Record vendor bills accurately and on time, coding each to the correct general ledger account, facility, and cost center
  • Match bills to purchase orders and receiving documents, and resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal teams
  • Process and record vendor payments, and maintain organized supporting documentation
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and keep vendor records current
  • Prepare and record sales invoices for wholesale customers
  • Record daily retail sales and cash receipts, including deposits from our retail store
  • Apply customer payments to the correct invoices and follow up on past-due balances
  • Maintain accurate customer account records
  • Assist with bank and account reconciliations
  • Support month-end close by preparing schedules and entries as assigned
  • Help maintain the complete, audit-ready records required in a regulated industry

Benefits

  • Work remotely
  • Regular chance to connect with the team in person
  • Learn directly from the CFO
  • Build a solid foundation for a career in accounting
  • Grow alongside a company in a dynamic, expanding industry
