About The Position

Topel Forman is seeking a tech-savvy Staff Accountant for its Family Office Services team in the Chicago office. The role works closely with family office clients, including closely held companies and high-net-worth individuals, and collaborates with the firm’s audit and tax teams. The Staff Accountant performs monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting tasks; gathers client information for tax planning; and identifies and communicates potential risks. This is an opportunity to contribute to the growth of a new division by helping build its team, processes, and procedures. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
1 to 3 years of relevant professional experience.
Understanding of U.S. GAAP, budgeting, financial analysis, and accounting functions generally performed by an ultra-high-net-worth family.
Ability to comprehend common financial statements and understand complex broker and private equity statements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
History of providing premier client service with a can-do attitude.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and commitment to high-quality work and output.
Strong time-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple critical deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances.
Ability to quickly learn new skills and tools.
Ability to identify and discuss issues and present workable solutions clearly and meaningfully to team members at all levels and to clients.

Responsibilities

Record financial transactions and balance and reconcile a variety of accounts.
Maintain and review general ledger accounts and consolidations.
Prepare financial statements for multiple entities, including operating businesses, trusts and estates, partnerships, private foundations, and individuals.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and their outside advisors, and address questions or issues that arise.
Research, track, and resolve accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems using current computer technology.
Process month-end and year-end closing and reporting accurately and on time.
Perform other responsibilities as required.
