About The Position

The Staff Accountant II reports to the Controller and is responsible for managing the payment of expenses and related documentation and assisting with recording, reconciling, and reporting the company’s various revenue streams, including grants. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, superior analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a service mindset. Non-profit experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, especially in-depth knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong listening abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, quality, goal, and deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong team player with good interpersonal relations.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CPA track a plus
  • Experience with accounting software – Sage Intacct (or similar ERP) and SAP Concur invoice processing a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly and monthly accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Prepare bank account and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with preparing monthly financial schedules and related analysis
  • Perform grant-related functions including reviewing all grant agreements, report balances for restricted and unrestricted contributions, prepare salary and indirect allocations, and grant closeout functions.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for donors and internal management.
  • Perform general ledger entry tasks including preparing journal entries and batch data imports
  • Assist the Finance staff with annual audits and perform ad-hoc financial analysis as needed.
  • Maintain vendor information including Form W-9s and verify banking information
  • Respond to accounts payable inquiries timely and maintain thorough and accurate files and documentation.
  • Process annual 1099 forms, monthly credit card bills, DC Use Tax worksheets, and reconcile personal charges and travel advances.
