About The Position

We're seeking a Staff Accountant II to join our team. This position is an excellent opportunity for accountants who want hands-on experience with core accounting functions while enjoying a healthy work-life balance and a mission-driven workplace. In this role, you'll play an important part in maintaining the financial integrity of university operations through account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and transaction processing. You'll also gain exposure to grants accounting and support financial activities connected to our vibrant student organizations and campus programs. This position offers a well-rounded introduction to many of the accounting processes that serve as the foundation of a successful accounting career, including bank deposits and account reconciliations, journal entries and general ledger activity, financial reporting and analysis, grants receivable processing, researching and resolving accounting questions, and supporting year-end financial activities and audits. One of the unique aspects of this position is the opportunity to see firsthand how university resources support student-run clubs, organizations, and initiatives across campus. Your work helps keep these programs running smoothly while providing valuable accounting experience in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong accounting and bookkeeping knowledge.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit financial reports and invoices.
  • Research, prepare, and enter journal vouchers and cost transfers in the general ledger.
  • Process wire transfers and returned checks.
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute account reconciliations.
  • Maintain financial records, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with grants-related accounting and receivable postings.
  • Interpret contracts and reporting requirements.
  • Research and respond to inquiries from university departments and external agencies.
  • Support year-end close activities, audit preparation, and special projects.
