About The Position

Sets up and operates both automatic and manual assembly lines, and assembles parts to specifications. Satisfies Somic America's Quality goals and objectives in the completion of activities or duties. This role involves maintaining a safe work area, performing hourly quality checks, completing changeovers, and operating machinery according to work instructions. The operator will also be responsible for observing machine operations, inspecting parts, performing planned maintenance, and submitting improvement suggestions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to stand eight (8) or more hours a day; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and provide a safe work area and work in a safe manner.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to Team Leader immediately.
  • Complete Hourly checks using In Process Check Sheets and Gaging to ensure parts meet Quality Specifications.
  • Notify Team Leader of any suspect material and helps to contain material line side.
  • Complete changeovers using Changeover Procedure.
  • Attach fixtures and jigs to the table positions according to the changeover procedure.
  • Change out Station changeover pieces according to the changeover procedure.
  • Fill in the Changeover checklist to ensure all changeover steps are complete.
  • Completes standardized work in accordance to Work Instructions.
  • Removes material from boxes and places in fixtures or on conveyor.
  • Moves parts from machine to machine as the process is completed.
  • Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Measures and inspects parts for conformance to specifications, using in process sheets, visual checks and gaging.
  • Notify Team Leader of any abnormal or unusual condition.
  • Complete line PMs (planned maintenance) as assigned.
  • Submit kaizen suggestions for improvements.
