About The Position

The SRHS Surgical Services Business Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective systems support for surgical services. This role involves leadership, working with physicians, management staff, and vendors to integrate institutional perspectives for high patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. The Business Manager monitors departmental charge master, billing, and budget reports, providing recommendations for improvement and compliance. They collaborate with VHA and Gulf Coast States Purchasing Coalition to promote standardization and maximize purchasing and cost-saving opportunities. Key responsibilities include financial analysis/reporting, value analysis/product selection, annual budget management, billing/reimbursement, and materials management.

Requirements

  • Must be either a graduate from NLN school of nursing or a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • If nursing graduate, must have current Mississippi State licensure.
  • Must be CMRP eligible and become certified within two (2) years.
  • Required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in working in the operating room/surgical services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of complex automated materials management systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of inventory control principles.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment required by various surgical specialties.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of budgetary principles, practices, and preparation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices and methods of supervision and training.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of various local, state and federal standards pertinent to hospital operating room supplies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles and concepts of conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of typical hospital operations and organizational structure.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Must have knowledge of regulatory agency standards.
  • Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area – with the employee providing his/her own transportation.

  • Prepare and present division budget.
  • Remain up-to-date with surgical equipment and supply trends.
  • Apply effective judgement in employing and dealing with subordinate personnel.
  • Effectively and resourcefully resolve problems and fill a primary role in maintaining efficient departmental operations.
  • Work effectively and in cooperation with other organizations, departments and personnel.
  • Provide support and assistance utilizing management principles and team work to promote achievement of common goals and to resolve problems.
