Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in physics with engineering background
  • Able to communicate clearly in writing (e.g. email, memos, explanations, drawings) and explain work to his/her supervisor and others in the group.
  • Able to interact with different groups in Engineering and Accelerator divisions
  • Familiarity with general principles of accelerators as pertains to SRF cavities and cryomodules.
  • Ability to communicate and work as part of a diverse team and interface with a wide variety of technical groups, partners, vendors etc.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 or more years SRF cavity design
  • Simulation codes such as CST microwave studio and COMSOL.
  • Testing of accelerator components

Responsibilities

  • Use computer simulation codes, such as CST, COMSOL, ANSYS and FLUKA to model RF structures for electromagnetic design as well as thermal and mechanical design in support of the various R&D projects.
  • Contribute to the development of novel SRF cavity and linac technology and other compact linac technology.
  • Contribute to the surface processing, assembly and testing of SRF cavities.
  • Contribute to the cryogenic RF testing and preparing documentation for crab cavities for the LHC upgrade.
  • Perform multi-physics analysis of SRF cavity structures.
  • Document results through tech notes, journal papers and conference papers.
  • Present results at team meetings, project meetings and conferences.
  • Travel to attend conferences, workshops, vendor places.
  • Occasional off-shift work for testing.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with technical and engineering staff within the Division.
