Summer 2027 SRE - Observability Engineering Internship

Tradeweb MarketsJersey City, NJ
Onsite

About The Position

As an intern at Tradeweb, you will gain practical, hands-on experience by collaborating with technologists and business experts. Our program combines traditional classroom settings with project-based work, allowing you to get involved with the firm's products and services. You will receive guidance from individuals at all levels of the organization, helping you build a professional network and relationships with your intern cohort through interactive outings and projects. This internship is within the Reliability & Observability Engineering team, which is responsible for monitoring Tradeweb’s trading platform. The team owns the pipelines and tooling that collect logs, metrics, and traces from thousands of hosts and applications across New York, London, and Tokyo environments. They transform this data into dashboards, alerts, and internal web applications that engineers and support staff use to monitor the platform's real-time health. Their tooling is often the first to detect production issues. The team also collaborates with application development, platform support, infrastructure and cloud engineering, database administration, and network engineering, as well as external observability vendors. Much of their work bridges these groups, offering broad exposure to a live trading platform's operations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of modern software languages – C, C++, Java, Python.
  • A background or interest in building large-scale, real-time, and distributed applications is desired.
  • Willing to take ownership of their work, working both independently and within a small team.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • A passion for technology.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort working in a Linux/command-line environment and with version control (Git).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – you will be asked to explain what you found and what you changed to people outside your immediate team.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to any of the following is a plus, but not required: cloud platforms (AWS), containers and Kubernetes, SQL, or web development (React/TypeScript).

Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining the data pipelines that ship logs and metrics from production systems into our observability platform.
  • Developing internal full-stack monitoring tools: React/TypeScript front ends backed by Python and Kotlin services.
  • Writing infrastructure as code (Terraform) and deploying to Kubernetes on AWS through GitLab CI and ArgoCD.
  • Creating and tuning dashboards and alerts so that on-call engineers get signal instead of noise.
  • Investigating gaps in monitoring coverage – finding hosts, processes, and services we are not yet watching, and onboarding them.
  • Analyzing telemetry data to reduce cost and improve query performance.
  • Participating in code review, merge requests, and the team’s normal agile ceremonies.

Benefits

  • Guidance from people at all levels of the organization.
  • Opportunities to build a long-lasting professional network.
  • Build relationships with the intern class through interactive outings and projects.
  • Scoped project of your own, expected to ship real changes into our environments over the course of the summer.
  • Encouraged to explore how AI and emerging technologies can be applied within your area of the business.
  • Opportunities to think differently, challenge existing processes, and contribute ideas that can help shape how we work in the future.
