About The Position

VARITE is looking for a qualified Sr UX Designer to partner with business and engineering teams to prioritize UX activities throughout the software development lifecycle and deliver high-quality experiences. The ideal candidate will have the ability to prioritize the backlog, schedule, and technical constraints while meeting business requirements and usability goals. This role focuses specifically on UI engineering, acting as a user advocate and delivering guidance on UI components, software accessibility concepts, and constraints. The Senior UX Designer will synthesize data from multiple sources to develop strategies for products, advocate for the end user, and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure product, engineering, and design decisions align with user needs. The role involves creating innovative designs through various methods like sketches, wireframes, and prototypes, and providing UI engineering support to development teams in both Agile and waterfall methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Graphic Design, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, and/or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of relevant technical or business work experience
  • Portfolio that demonstrates sentient design, component-driven design, modern design practices, complex UI patterns, and application of UX metrics
  • Advanced experience with Storybook, HTML/CSS/JS best practices and building accessible component libraries
  • Intermediate design engineering experience with modern JavaScript and related technologies e.g., AI coding assistants, Angular, React, and GitLab
  • Demonstrated success at creating reusable, accessible and modular designs that have a significant impact on product strategy and design
  • 5+ years of experience with participating in user experience research using a variety of research methods.
  • 3+ years of prototyping experience and familiarity of designer tools such as Figma, and MURAL
  • Proficiency with one or more usability testing tools or services
  • Familiar with Agile concepts such as PI planning, retrospectives, sprints, SCRUM, Kanban, and so forth

  • Expertise with component-driven design and supporting enterprise design systems
  • Expertise in Section 508 and WCAG
  • UX certification desirable
  • Design thinking certification desirable

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the business and engineering teams to prioritize UX activities throughout the software development lifecycle and deliver high-quality experiences.
  • Prioritize the backlog, schedule, and technical constraints while meeting business requirements and usability goals.
  • Support all aspects of design and production, focusing specifically on UI engineering.
  • Act as a user advocate and participate in UX discussions with business partners on topics including sentient design, interaction features, design systems, information architecture, and user research.
  • Deliver guidance on UI components, software accessibility concepts, and constraints.
  • Assess data from multiple sources, synthesize it, and develop strategies for products.
  • Advocate for the end user by influencing decisions to ensure that product, engineering, and design decisions are aligned with user needs and expectations.
  • Collaborate with UX analysts, product/business stakeholders, and engineering teams to prioritize UX activities throughout the software development lifecycle and deliver high-quality experiences.
  • Assist IT engineers with understanding and incorporating technical, business, and user requirements into designs and applications.
  • Understand product, client goals, requirements, internal goals, usability, and technical constraints associated with budget and schedule.
  • Support all aspects of design and production, focusing specifically on UX design and UI component delivery.
  • Create innovative and appealing designs on a rapid and iterative basis, through sketches, storyboards, user task flows, wireframes, prototypes, and the production of final assets for specific features and assignments.
  • Facilitate stakeholders through the design process, gathering actionable feedback and iterating at the appropriate level of changes.
  • Provide UI engineering support to development teams in both Agile and waterfall methodologies for responsive interfaces on the presentation layer.
  • Work with enterprise strategy groups, third parties, consultants, and/or vendors who provide guidance around industry standards, best practices and/or capabilities support.
