About The Position

The Sr. Transportation Manager - Fleet Management is a highly visible supply chain role that is critical in driving performance and execution in the field and will directly own supporting the execution of the Fleet Strategy, Capital Planning, Management and Performance nationally for Univar Solutions. Critical to the success of this role will be balancing cost, quality, and performance metrics to ensure a high readiness rate of equipment and a low-cost operation. The Fleet Areas that this position will own and lead are – field capability (development of fleet leaders and coordinators); implementing AOP tactics and performance metrics in Repair and Maintenance/Labor/Rental& Lease/Sustainability and other strategic solutions in support of Univar Solutions’ key initiatives; execute an Asset Management plan across all regions; drive fuel usage improvement programs; provide best in class service to our customers; support the development of near term and long term capital replacement and invest strategy; develop initiatives within the light and heavy fleets that spearhead the company’s sustainability strategy and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or Logistics from an accredited institution is essential.
  • 7+ plus years of experience in the fleet/transportation/operations field, or equivalent, covering a broad range of fleet elements mentioned above.
  • Demonstrated experience managing third party maintenance providers.
  • Knowledge and experience working with MS Office Suite, with strong Excel skills.
  • Knowledge and experience working with transportation management systems, with SAP TM preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience leading network / route modeling capabilities and initiatives both with carriers and private fleets.
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-modes of transportation (TL & Rail).

Nice To Haves

  • An MBA or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Chemical distribution expertise with a Commercial and Product Management background, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute plans required to deliver financial, capital replacement, sustainability, and service goals related to the private fleets (both heavy and light); this encompasses a fleet of over 4,000 assets (Tractor, Trailers, Tankers, Company Light Fleet vehicles) and an annual budget of ~$100 Million.
  • Ensure fleet execution against transportation requirements, meeting the needs of internal and external customers (retail customers, replenishment planning, etc.).
  • Develop and foster deep cross-functional alignment and partnership with Transportation, Operations, and Commercial stakeholders to identify, and address asset utilization opportunities.
  • Lead Transformation fleet agenda within the SC&Ops function to include designing and implementing pilot programs that advance our sustainability goals.
  • Partners with the Operations, Transportation, Commercial leaders to identify potential productivity opportunities and develop 5-year capital replacement plan.
  • Leverage business process, systems, and human capital to drive continuous improvement in service and cost performance.
  • Build a culture that supports the strategic direction of the organization, fostering an environment that values individual as well as team contributions, encourages innovation, champions change, and values diversity.
  • Stays abreast of new emerging trends and technologies in the fleet management and fuel usage space, shares these learnings broadly through various means and determines implications.
