About The Position

The role of Sr. Transportation Specialist directly supports the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. The Transportation Specialist Serves as the premier field expert for our wind energy logistics team, within our project management organization. It operates with full autonomy on separate, high-profile wind turbine transport projects evaluations across North America. 100% coverage of all Nordex projects in North America. The primary mission is to plan, evaluate, and validate heavy haul inland logistics strategies along with the required road modifications from port or factory to the final site. Not limited to the creation of processes along each development, to secure scalability. Additionally, they will be responsible for defining detailed Scopes of Work for processing by the project team in the execution readiness phase, ensuring early execution with sufficient buffers for the project, ensuring a logistics strategy from the outset for subsequent execution within the established time and budget. They will also monitor the necessary road modification (scope, cost, planning and permitting requirements) and support the project and procurement teams during the execution phase, in coordination with Project Managers, Project Operations Managers, and the logistics team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/ GED
  • Minimum 15 years of field experience with wind projects
  • Deep, specialized background routing and moving wind turbine components (blades, towers, nacelles), as well as off road applications within project cargo.
  • Proven expertise safely manoeuvring heavy loads through mountain ranges and harsh geographies.
  • Extensive "Truck Boss" history successfully routing thousands of loads across North America.
  • Willingness to travel continuously, as most workdays are spent in the field.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced environments, effective task prioritization, meeting deadlines, and upholding safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Valid passport and clear eligibility to move seamlessly between the US and Canada.
  • Certified drone pilot holding valid US (FAA Part 107) and/or Transport Canada credentials.
  • High proficiency in data entry with the ability to quickly master new web-based data tools.
  • Demonstrated success in engaging with key customer executives, development, and construction management.
  • Ethical conduct, entrepreneurial mindset, and dedication to achieving objectives in diverse and fast-paced environments.
  • Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.
  • Ability to travel domestic and international locations and on business as required (60% travel) and ability to obtain a passport.
  • Travel abroad is to be expected.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position

Responsibilities

  • Map and plan heavy haul transport routes from any North American port or factory to project sites. Not limited to storage and staging layouts, and yard egress.
  • Travel to routes, either by company vehicle or air travel/vehicle rental to physically verify clearances, turning radii, and road grades.
  • Analyze, with the use of company provided tools and personal knowledge, challenging terrain (e.g., mountainous regions) to determine specialized asset requirements. Define, in all cases, exact equipment requirements and configuration plans for specialized heavy haul trailers.
  • Specify and substantiate necessary support vehicles, push trucks, and specialized equipment required for steep or complex geography.
  • Inspect, with the use of company provided tools and personal knowledge, as-built civil infrastructure on-site to ensure it safely accommodates planned transport configurations and planned design.
  • Identify transport restrictions and engineer immediate, compliant bypass solutions. This will apply to projects under planning phases, but also projects under execution.
  • Use web-based corporate tools to accurately input, track, and manage logistical and field data.
  • Deploy drones to inspect, map, define obstacles and develop mitigations plans. Including vehicle simulations, and collaboration with civil engineering subcontractors and transportation companies.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
  • Properly use applicable safety equipment, including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protectors, steel-toe boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Speak and understand English fluently to effectively communicate safety and job-related information, follow safety instructions, and collaborate with English-speaking supervisors and team members.
