About The Position

As a Sr. Torque Engineer, Metrology at Rivian, you will be responsible for implementing torque-specific requirements, assisting local teams as a subject matter expert for torque-related equipment and processes, like torque technical support, problem-solving assistance, and process improvement initiatives, while upholding Rivian's standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Automotive experience preferred.
  • Internal Employees must meet internal mobility guidelines applicable to their current role, including time in position.
  • Working knowledge of metrology equipment for measuring dimensions and torque values.
  • Experience using VDI/ToolsNet8/TT2/QAS and different tooling software.
  • Experience programming Atlas Copco tools on an advanced level for all the different applications.
  • Experience programming ESTIC, Sturtevant, Makita and Snap-On Tools.
  • Experience performing torque capability studies.
  • Experience performing trace and result data analyses.
  • Experience providing tooling recommendations.
  • Leadership skills required.
  • Kaizen / continuous improvement process experience.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Strong team orientation.
  • Quick decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to climb up/down ladders and stairs, negotiate uneven or moving surfaces, and work at varying heights.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be on the plant floor and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to solvents, fumes, heat, and odors normally associated with vehicle manufacturing.
  • Ability to drive electric Industrial vehicles (Titan/Tug/Shuttle.

Responsibilities

  • Main support for troubleshooting tooling issues within the different torque tool models and technology.
  • Assist with line calls and line down issues related to Torque tooling or Torque Quality issues.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve internal torque requirements at a Systems level.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, quality standards, and internal deliverables.
  • Monitor and report on Key Process Indicators and Key Activities Indicators that drive the torque department from the Residual and Tooling torque side.
  • Collaborate with other areas to coordinate workflow, prioritize activities, resolve issues, and implement process improvements related to the torque tooling and quality torque performance.
  • Maintain a high-quality relationship with all departments within the organization.
  • Lead teams to address, guide, and support torque-related issues using problem-solving methodologies.
  • Assist in creating torque-specific documentation related to standardized work, training material, lessons learned, troubleshooting guides, etc.
  • Overall maintenance of the torque databases used by the department in conjunction with the Supplier.
  • Support and participate in Launch and line rebalance activities.
  • For new product launches, lead and follow the plant-specific Master List for all torque equipment.
  • Assist corporate and local teams in completing launch-specific activities – User Acceptance Testing (Residual Torque), Static Correlation Studies (Cp/Cpk), and developing baseline angle monitoring.
  • Understand customer requirements and be able to train local teams to the requirements.
  • Perform as a leader for the torque technicians and team members, by managing daily activities in conjunction with the GL.
  • May perform other duties as required.
