About The Position

Shermco Services is North America’s largest and fastest growing NETA-accredited Union electrical testing organization, focused on ensuring electrical power systems function properly and safely with an emphasis on safety and client service. Backed by Gryphon Investors, Shermco is poised for future growth. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Sr. Test Specialist to join our team in several locations. Shermco Services is accredited by NETA.

Requirements

Associate’s degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or a EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience, and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee) is preferred.
NETA Certification (I) or similar desired or Electrician license preferred.
At least 5 or more years of relevant experience performing Protection & Controls testing & troubleshooting.
Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
Ability to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Must be able to crawl, climb, stand, and lift to 100 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam.
Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a safe driving record.
Must be available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel.
Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without need for employer sponsored visa (work permit).
Must be willing to travel; minimum 50%.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Nice To Haves

OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training (training on each can be provided by Shermco).
U.S. passport & TWIC card.

Responsibilities

Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems.
Travel to customer jobsites across the state and bordering states.
Perform instrument transformer testing to include CT’s, PT’s and CCVT’s.
Perform wiring installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, SPS/RAS schemes, distribution automation systems and associated communication equipment.
Perform functional testing of relay panels and schemes, as well as substation equipment such as transformers, breakers, regulators, cap banks, line tuners and traps.
Read and interpret control prints, schematic and wiring diagrams.
Test and commission pilot schemes including powerline carrier and line current differential.
Assist with transmission and distribution level maintenance if customer requires.
Troubleshoot anything that may come up in a substation without assistance.
Lead and manage a project from inception to commissioning with no supervision, including deliverable dates and interfacing with customer staff groups such as protection, automation, project managers, construction crews, switchmen and system operations such as DCC and BES.
Teach and mentor junior engineers/technicians in the art and science of protective relaying and commissioning.
