Sr. Tax Accountant

HighLevel
$84,000 - $103,000Remote

About The Position

HighLevel is an AI-powered business operating system that gives agencies, entrepreneurs and SMBs the infrastructure to build, automate and scale. The Sr. Tax Accountant will report to the Sr. Corporate Tax Manager and will specifically support Corporate Income tax. This role involves developing and facilitating U.S. federal and state corporate income tax compliance, quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provision, and estimated payments within a high-growth SaaS business. The position requires owning provision and compliance workflows, applying technical tax research and analysis, maintaining SOX-compliant internal controls, and ensuring tax positions are well-documented, defensible, and scalable. The role also involves driving collaboration with internal teams (Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Legal), external partners (preparers, advisors, auditors), and auditors & regulators.

Requirements

  • 5 years of progressive experience in direct/corporate income tax (federal & state), preferably with a mix of public accounting and corporate experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of ASC 740 and U.S. federal/state corporate income tax fundamentals, with growing ability to research tax issues and help document clear, well-supported conclusions.
  • Hands-on experience operating within a SOX-controlled environment or knowledge of, including designing, executing, and documenting income tax controls, and supporting control testing with internal and external auditors.
  • Familiarity with tax issues common to fast-growing, multi-state SaaS companies, including apportionment, and state modernization of income tax rules.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard ERPs and financial data systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle), along with tax provision and compliance platforms such as the Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE suite or Corptax.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivots, VLOOKUPs, data manipulation) required to handle massive, high-volume transactional datasets.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Ability to pivot quickly when priorities change and navigate fast organizational growth as an exciting challenge rather than a roadblock.
  • Proven track record of digging into data to not only identify tax issues but actively propose and execute automated solutions.
  • Skilled at translating complex tax provision and compliance concepts into plain English for non-finance stakeholders, alongside strong documentation skills for future reference and audit support.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation or Master of Taxation degree is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Alteryx, or other various dashboard and data manipulation tools is a plus.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage or automate processes and surface insights, helping unlock team capacity for high-impact analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the end-to-end preparation, review, and timely filing of U.S. federal and state corporate income tax returns, quarterly estimated payments, and extensions, in accordance with SOX-documented processes and deadlines.
  • Prepare or review quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations, including current and deferred tax computations, effective tax rate reconciliations, and related financial statement disclosures, ensuring each step is supported by compliant workpapers and evidence.
  • Perform technical tax research and analysis on federal and state tax law changes, apportionment methodologies, and evolving income tax nexus standards, documenting conclusions to an audit-ready standard as HighLevel expands.
  • Support the team through federal and state income tax audits by efficiently managing information document requests (IDRs) and partnering with leadership to advocate for and defend established tax positions.
  • Own and execute key SOX controls over the income tax close process; prepare or review monthly and quarterly tax account reconciliations, including deferred tax assets/liabilities and income tax payable accounts, within NetSuite.
  • Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, and Legal to evaluate the income tax and SOX control impact of new entities, intercompany transactions, and transfer pricing arrangements.
