About The Position

Kaiser Aluminum Corporation is seeking a Tax Compliance Sr Accountant who will serve as a key advisor for all tax matters within the Tax Department. This role requires advanced knowledge of US GAAP, consolidated tax return regulations, and multi-state tax law. The position is responsible for preparing and reviewing Federal and state income tax returns, providing audit support, assisting with income tax provisions, and conducting tax research and special projects. The role involves a significant focus on State Tax (50%) and Federal Tax (45%), with a smaller portion dedicated to International Tax (5%).

Requirements

  • 3+ years of tax experience with a large public accounting firm and/or a major corporation desired, with minimum 3 years of solid experience in income tax preparation and review.
  • Solid background in U.S. corporate tax compliance, GAAP, and other related U.S. accounting standards and principles.
  • Demonstrated advanced working knowledge of the consolidation and eliminations process including corporate tax forms, schedules and disclosures required with the ability to apply this expertise to the business environment.
  • Highly disciplined with the ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Advanced experienced with Excel and income tax compliance software (Corptax a plus).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license and/or MBT (Master in Business Taxation) degree preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all domestic income tax compliance, including federal and state income tax returns in Corptax.
  • Prepares international tax returns, such as Form 5471, Form 8975 in Corptax.
  • Prepares calculations of quarterly state estimated corporate income tax returns and annual extensions.
  • Prepares and reviews book to tax differences with documentation of underlying accounting methods.
  • Provides analysis for U.S. and state tax audits.
  • Develops and reviews responses to inquiries from taxing authorities.
  • Coordinates with tax department team members and other Department leads on IRS and state examination information requests.
  • Assists in monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provision close process.
  • Ensures proper application of accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) and other accounting pronouncements.
  • Prepares blended state rate calculation and state NOL utilization forecast for current and future years.
  • Ensures the tax department is compliant with the requirements of Section 404 of Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Assists in managing exemption certificate collection process and sales & use tax research determinations.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned, including, but not limited to tax planning, automation, method changes, transfer pricing and analysis of income tax consequences of non-standard transactions.
  • Research and analysis as needed.
