Sr Systems Engineer

Rite-Hite•Milwaukee, IA

About The Position

Lead the evaluation, architecture, integration, and maturation of multidisciplinary product systems and emerging technologies. Translate customer and business needs into system requirements, develop and evaluate system architectures, lead technical trade studies and proofs of concept, and prepare technologies for transition into new product development (NPD) and other business initiatives. Ensure system concepts address customer needs, business objectives, safety, reliability, cybersecurity, scalability, and product-platform requirements. Provide documented recommendations and transition plans to help NPD teams adopt mature technologies effectively. The role also involves analytical modeling, test planning and execution, analysis of test data, collaboration across engineering and business functions, supplier technology evaluation, and mentoring less experienced engineers. Occasional overnight travel may be required for field visits to install or troubleshoot prototype or service-engineering field models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant product-development experience.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary product development involving system requirements, architecture, integration, controls, embedded systems, sensing, connectivity, verification, or related systems-engineering activities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Product liability awareness.
  • Excellent decision-making abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced technical degree (MS or PhD).
  • Systems-engineering education, training, or professional certification, such as INCOSE ASEP or CSEP.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional system architecture and technology-evaluation activities.
  • Develop technology maturation plans, Technology Readiness Level (TRL) criteria, and proof-of-concept objectives.
  • Define system boundaries, architectures, interfaces, and performance requirements.
  • Conduct trade studies, risk assessments, feasibility analyses, and make-or-buy evaluations.
  • Define system verification, validation, and acceptance strategies.
  • Translate product and business needs into actionable system requirements in collaboration with Product Management and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Evaluate supplier technologies and their fit within product architectures.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers in systems design and testing.
  • Maintain a pipeline of technologies and document their readiness for NPD.
  • Analyze complex components or systems for design life and performance.
  • Perform analytical modeling using calculations or simulation tools such as MATLAB or Spice.
  • Write test procedures; set up, perform, and monitor tests; collect, reduce, analyze, and present test data; and draw conclusions from the data.
  • Interface with engineers, designers, drafters, technicians, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, and marketing.
  • Attend field trips to install or troubleshoot prototype and/or service-engineering field models; possible overnight travel is noted.
  • Keep current with technology advancements for product and manufacturing improvements.
  • Execute and support the quality system and procedures as part of continuous improvement.
  • Establish system requirements, architectures, interfaces, and technical success criteria for assigned technologies and product concepts.
  • Mature emerging technologies through structured evaluation, technical risk reduction, proofs of concept, and TRL assessment.
  • Provide documented recommendations and transition plans to support adoption of mature technologies by NPD teams.
