Sr. Systems Engineer - EECSI
About The Position
Motorola Solutions is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer for the Elgin Experience Center Systems Integration (EECSI) department. This role involves designing, programming, optimizing, testing, and demonstrating two-way mobile radio systems for customers before they accept delivery. The EECSI team is responsible for the end-to-end integration of these systems. In this position, you will be an integral part of a team of engineers and technicians, working to understand and meet complex customer requirements for communications and information systems. You will become familiar with the EECSI workflow, program and integrate equipment, and actively participate in the implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, testing, and auditing of systems during the staging process. This role requires providing detailed system design documentation, hands-on support, and serving as a key point of contact for resolving product and system issues. Additionally, you will be involved in developing new methods to enhance system performance, ease of installation, diagnostics, quality, and cycle time.
Requirements
- IT Systems Engineering experience
- Aggressive problem-solving skills and the ability to get things done in a multi-organizational environment.
- Effective communications, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of two-way radio systems, wireless data systems
- LAN/WAN, Windows, and TCP/IP networking skills are required.
- VM and OVF high-level working and design knowledge.
- Bachelor's Degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Networking, or Information Systems
- 3+ years of experience
Nice To Haves
- Astro/Mototrbo Motorola Communication systems experience is desired.
- LTE, P25, Tetra knowledge is helpful.
- Scripting & Automation: Experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash or n8n to automate routine system diagnostics, staging tasks, and configuration workflows.
- Hypervisor Environments: Hands-on experience configuring, provisioning, and managing virtual infrastructure across enterprise hypervisors (e.g., VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, or KVM).
- Networking Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent networking credentials validating foundational network design and troubleshooting skills.
Responsibilities
- Be an active member of a team of developmental engineers, systems engineers, system technicians, and field personnel to understand, design, and test complex communications and information systems to meet customer requirements and schedule deadlines.
- Become familiar with the EECSI workflow processes and procedures to program and integrate equipment for a fully functional system.
- As a system staging engineer be an active participant. Driving force behind the implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, testing, and auditing of systems throughout the staging process.
- Provide detailed system design drawings/documentation, as well as hands-on support for systems testing and troubleshooting.
- Serve as focal point & catalyst for the resolution of product and system problems in complex communications and information systems.
- Develop new methods to improve performance, ease of installation, diagnostics, quality, and cycle time of complex systems.
