Sr. Systems Engineer - EECSI
About The Position
Motorola Solutions is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer for the Elgin Experience Center Systems Integration (EECSI) department. This team is responsible for designing, programming, optimizing, testing, and demonstrating two-way mobile radio systems to customers before they accept delivery. The role involves being an active member of a team of engineers and technicians to understand, design, and test complex communication and information systems, adhering to customer requirements and deadlines. The engineer will become familiar with EECSI workflow processes, program and integrate equipment for fully functional systems, and actively participate in the implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, testing, and auditing of systems during the staging process. This includes providing detailed system design documentation and hands-on support, serving as a focal point for resolving product and system issues, and developing new methods to improve system performance, installation ease, diagnostics, quality, and cycle time.
Requirements
- IT Systems Engineering experience
- Aggressive problem-solving skills and the ability to get things done in a multi-organizational environment.
- Effective communications, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of two-way radio systems, wireless data systems LAN/WAN, Windows, and TCP/IP networking skills are required.
- VM and OVF high-level working and design knowledge.
- Bachelor's Degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Networking, or Information Systems
- 3+ years of experience
Nice To Haves
- Astro/Mototrbo Motorola Communication systems experience is desired.
- LTE, P25, Tetra knowledge is helpful.
- Experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash or n8n to automate routine system diagnostics, staging tasks, and configuration workflows.
- Hands-on experience configuring, provisioning, and managing virtual infrastructure across enterprise hypervisors (e.g., VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, or KVM).
- CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent networking credentials validating foundational network design and troubleshooting skills.
Responsibilities
- Be an active member of a team of developmental engineers, systems engineers, system technicians, and field personnel to understand, design, and test complex communications and information systems to meet customer requirements and schedule deadlines.
- Become familiar with the EECSI workflow processes and procedures to program and integrate equipment for a fully functional system.
- As a system staging engineer be an active participant. Driving force behind the implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, testing, and auditing of systems throughout the staging process.
- Provide detailed system design drawings/documentation, as well as hands-on support for systems testing and troubleshooting.
- Serve as focal point & catalyst for the resolution of product and system problems in complex communications and information systems.
- Develop new methods to improve performance, ease of installation, diagnostics, quality, and cycle time of complex systems.
