Sr. Systems Engineer Autonomy

Rivian•Palo Alto, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

As part of Rivian’s Autonomy Systems Integration team, the Sr. Systems Engineer Autonomy will support development and deployment of Rivian’s ADAS/Autonomy features. The role is part of the Palo Alto-based System Integration team, which develops, integrates, and supports the data collection fleet architecture, including HIL benches, in-house ECUs, sensor integration, and loggerware. The position works cross-functionally with Rivian software development teams locally and across the country. It is expected to be onsite, with occasional travel to support development, testing, and other needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to work in the office five days a week.
  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, and C++ for developing, testing, and deploying automated driving applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully with cross-functional teams, both internal and external to the team.
  • Strong knowledge of ADAS sensors (Lidar, Radar, and Camera) and their applications for data collection.
  • Knowledge of network architecture, including TCP/IP, UDP, PTP, and the hardware layer.
  • Familiarity with Git, Jira, and software development lifecycle tools.
  • Hands-on experience with HIL or bench test environments, including test automation in Python/pytest.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with embedded Linux bring-up and debugging, including bootloaders, kernel/driver configuration, PCIe, and Ethernet interfaces.
  • Ability to read schematics and use lab equipment such as an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and DMM for hardware/electrical debugging.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve Data Collection HIL benches, including hardware and software, to keep them available for development and release testing; develop automated test cases using pytest and Linux tools.
  • Support bring-up and integration of in-house high-compute ECUs for data collection, including OS/BSP integration, interface validation, and hardware/software debugging.
  • Support initial integration of new ADAS sensors—Lidar, Radar, and Camera—onto data collection platforms, including network configuration, time-sync validation, and data-quality verification.
  • Support development, maintenance, and validation of loggerware tools and operating systems, including logging hardware bring-up and bug fixes.
  • Triage system hardware and software bugs on benches and vehicles by reproducing issues, root-causing across electrical, firmware, and software layers, and escalating based on impact to users and the program.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and support integration efforts for Data Logging architecture development.
  • Document integration procedures, test results, and bench configurations so work can be handed off to platform and operations teams.
