About The Position

This role acts as the primary translator between Enterprise Architecture strategy and engineering delivery, defining detailed specifications for microservices, integration patterns, and cloud-native architectures. The Sr. System Architect will lead the technical design for replacing legacy Rail Transportation systems (Mainframe/TPF) with modern Java and Spring-based microservices using event-driven architecture (EDA). This includes designing and governing robust API contracts and integration patterns, maintaining a broad understanding of the full engineering lifecycle, and partnering with development teams to ensure architectural integrity. The role also involves applying industry-standard frameworks like TOGAF, BizBok, and DAMA (DMBok) and providing architectural leadership within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, specialized training, or equivalent work experience.
  • Fifteen+ years of experience in multiple IT areas.
  • Ten+ years of relevant technology architecture experience.
  • Experience defining and implementing solutions for rail transportation companies is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 5 years+ knowledge of and practicing experience with SAFe.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of EA Frameworks, Methodologies, and Bodies of Knowledge – TOGAF, Business Architecture Guild (BizBok) and DAMA (DMBok) a plus.
  • Well-grounded in state-of-the-art principles of architectural modeling, event-driven architecture, enterprise information management, and software design and development.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of large-scale Rail Transportation system modernization in an enterprise setting.
  • Broad IT experience in technologies ranging from IBM Mainframe & TPF to Java and Spring-based microservices in event-driven system architectures.
  • Demonstrated success at delivering solutions that solve multi-domain business problems.

  • Maintain a broad understanding of the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Partner with development teams to ensure architectural integrity during implementation, focusing on reusability, scalability, and performance.
  • Apply industry-standard frameworks, including TOGAF, BizBok, and DAMA (DMBok), to ensure that application designs are grounded in enterprise-wide data and business standards.
  • Practice and provide architectural leadership within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment, ensuring technical designs support rapid, iterative delivery and continuous integration.
