Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. The Senior System Protection Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and protection of moderately complex high voltage power systems. This role involves monitoring the work of junior engineers and technicians in developing and implementing protection schemes for transmission and distribution systems, as well as coordinating these schemes with other utilities. The position also entails developing control philosophies and sequences for larger, moderately complex generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Transmission and High Voltage Distribution (T&HVD) System Protection team safeguards the reliability of Consumers Energy's 46 kV and 138 kV electric transmission and distribution systems by designing, configuring, and maintaining protection schemes and relay systems. The team supports T&HVD projects throughout their lifecycle, providing technical leadership in protection system applications, relay settings and coordination, fault analysis, short-circuit studies, protection system modeling, real-time system support, equipment evaluations, and compliance with NERC reliability standards. Engineers on this team play a crucial role in optimizing system performance, enhancing grid reliability, and ensuring the safe delivery of electricity.
