About The Position

Visa is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design, implement, and improve full-stack applications and systems in the fintech sector. Engineers spend approximately 80–90% of their time coding, using modern development tools—including AI-assisted development, cloud services, and automation frameworks—to deliver secure, scalable, high-quality solutions. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn business requirements into technical solutions while following engineering best practices, security standards, and regulatory requirements. The role requires digital fluency, including using generative AI tools in everyday work. The engineer develops and maintains React/JavaScript/TypeScript front ends and Java/Spring Boot and Node.js services, owning features from requirements through production. The role includes building production agentic AI solutions, applying AI-assisted engineering practices, contributing to architecture and design, creating secure REST APIs and microservices, testing and troubleshooting software, participating in on-call support, and mentoring junior engineers. Visa requires at least three days in the office; the specific days will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager. Work hours vary with department needs, and the role requires travel 5–10% of the time. The position is performed in an office setting and involves sitting and standing at a desk, communicating in person and by telephone, and frequently operating standard office equipment such as telephones and computers.

Requirements

At least 2 years of relevant work experience with a bachelor's degree, or at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
Professional hands-on experience building full-stack applications with Java and JavaScript.
Hands-on experience with React, Spring Boot, Node.js, relational databases such as MySQL or Postgres, and Linux.
Hands-on experience building and shipping agentic AI solutions, including LLM APIs, tool/function calling, agent frameworks, or MCP-based integrations, with examples that can be discussed in detail.
Experience designing, building, and testing enterprise-scale web services and REST APIs.
Ability to work across Development, Quality Assurance, automation testing, and production support functions while adapting to changing project and business needs.

Nice To Haves

At least 3 years of work experience with a bachelor's degree, or more than 2 years of work experience with an advanced degree such as a master's, MBA, JD, or MD.
At least four years of experience in technologies/software systems or a directly related field.
At least three years of experience developing and/or implementing web-based or mobile applications.
Depth in modern front-end engineering, including React with TypeScript, state management, component design systems, performance optimization, and accessibility.
Depth in back-end engineering, including Spring Boot microservices, Spring Security, JPA/Hibernate, asynchronous and event-driven patterns, caching, and API versioning.
Production experience with agentic AI patterns, including multi-step and multi-agent orchestration, tool and MCP server design, retrieval-augmented generation, vector stores and embeddings, prompt and context engineering, structured output, streaming responses, AI behavior evaluation and regression testing, AI workload observability and tracing, and controls for cost, latency, hallucination, and prompt injection.
Experience using generative AI and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development velocity, code quality, testing effectiveness, and engineering productivity.
Experience with microservices, Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native architectures.
Experience in CI/CD environments and related tooling.
Experience in system design and architecture for product components.
Experience debugging and troubleshooting software issues.
Experience with code review and applying coding standards.
Experience planning and executing software feature testing, including test automation.
Experience responding to support requests and deploying fixes.
Experience using software developer tools for code creation and maintenance.
At least two years of experience on client-facing or developer-facing platforms, APIs, or technical teams.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain full-stack features across React/JavaScript/TypeScript front ends and Java/Spring Boot and Node.js back-end services, owning delivery from requirements through production.
Build and ship production agentic AI solutions, including LLM-backed services, tool-calling and multi-step agents, MCP servers and clients, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, prompt and context engineering, evaluation harnesses, and safety, cost, and latency guardrails.
Use AI-assisted engineering tools for code generation, refactoring, test authoring, code review, debugging, and documentation, and help improve team productivity and quality through better AI workflows.
Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret requirements, incorporate feedback, verify assumptions, and escalate potential design issues.
Participate in system design and architecture for platform components and AI-enabled services, refine code plans, and contribute to design documentation.
Design, build, and consume secure, well-documented REST APIs and microservices for internal teams and external developer clients.
Contribute to project estimation and escalate issues that may cause delays.
Develop, implement, and maintain product, service, or component code following coding patterns, guidelines, and best practices.
Use debugging and observability tools to verify assumptions and proactively flag issues.
Participate in code reviews, ensure coding standards are followed, and address routine pull requests.
Create test plans and configure unit, integration, automation, and AI-feature evaluation testing to identify and resolve defects.
Respond to support requests during on-call rotations, troubleshoot issues, and deploy fixes.
Use software developer tools to create, debug, and maintain code.
