About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Residence Life and Student Housing, and the direct supervision of the Housing Coordinator, this position plays an integral role in the quality of the on-campus experience within the University residence halls. UNM Residence Life and Student Housing endeavors to foster inclusive, community-based living environments consciously designed for our residents' personal and academic success in well-maintained facilities. This position contributes to the department's mission by providing excellent customer service and campus support through 24/7 security services and by leading a team of peers to perform to a high standard of excellence.

Requirements

  • Work partial graveyard shifts on a recurring basis (approximately 2–3 times per month).
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and seminars; staff will be paid for attending required meetings
  • Begin work prior to the start of the semester and continue work after the end of the semester
  • Be able to work half of each University holiday period or closure, such as but not limited to Winter Break, Fall Break, Spring Break, and Summer
  • Be available to work approximately every other weekend
  • May not work over 28 hours per week.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Be able to work and respond to needs on an emergency basis, if needed
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours each academic semester, excluding summer
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Pass a pre-employment criminal background check
  • Be eligible for student employment
  • Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM
  • Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count)
  • If Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Must have experience working on the UNM Residence Life and Student Housing Student Safety team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate support in the supervision of Student Safety Staff Members, to include scheduling employee shifts, assigning and delegating tasks, reviewing and following up on employee performance, chairing periodic staff meetings, and serving as a liaison between student employees and the full-time staff supervisor
  • Serve as a leader among peer students in performing to a high standard of excellence
  • Respond to non-standard emergencies and issues as the first point-of-contact for 24/7 staff members
  • Ensure the proper use of maintenance, and storage of department equipment, such as motorized vehicles, and other materials
  • Serve as a member of the Safety and Security Staff team and perform all functions of a Safety and Security Staff team member, including patrolling, monitoring, and responding to safety and security needs
  • Assist with the execution and planning of major residence hall events, such as opening and closing
  • Attend periodic meetings with full-time supervisor and student staff
  • Communicate with department staff regarding security
  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned
