About The Position

Kleinfelder is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Sr. Structural Engineer to join their growing Illinois structural team. This role involves working on complex structural projects and making a lasting impact on communities. The engineer will play a key role in delivering safe, innovative, and cost-effective engineering solutions through designing new structures, evaluating existing ones, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The team spans architectural, structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, process engineering, pipeline design, and integrity management, working together to deliver integrated, high-impact solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• 15+ years or more experience in the design of bridge and/or buildings
• Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design principles
• Ability to communicate with clients utilizing excellent written and verbal skills

Nice To Haves

• Experience with bridges, transportation structures, municipal facilities, commercial buildings, or public infrastructure
• Familiarity with Illinois Department of Transportation policies and procedures
• Illinois SE license or progress toward SE licensure
• Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley Connect Open Roads Software, and/or AASHTOware bridge rating software, or other bridge design software such as MDX

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze steel, concrete, timber, and masonry buildings and bridges
• Prepare structural calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports
• Perform structural inspections and condition assessments
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and public agencies
• Review construction submittals and respond to field questions
• Participate in project planning, budgeting, estimating, and scheduling
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, AASHTO, IDOT, and industry standards
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence
