About The Position

As the Sr. Category Manager – R&D Services, you will be a key member of Medtronic’s center-led Indirect Supply Management (ISM) team responsible for managing and influencing ~$250M in annual spend incurred in the Research & Development (R&D) Services categories. This is a global role, with the vast majority of spend concentrated in the Americas. You will partner with stakeholders across Functions, Regions, and Businesses to drive value. Reporting to the Indirect Supply Management (ISM) leader for this category, you will apply your strong business acumen to choose the right supplier and engagement models as well as put in place contracts that will protect Medtronic’s interests. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in R&D Sourcing, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, business, supply chain, information systems, life sciences, law, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the economics, supplier landscape, and market trends within R&D services, software, and technical services categories.
  • Experience in global category management, including strategy development and execution using strategic sourcing methodologies.
  • Experience working in large, multi-divisional organizations, preferably within regulated or engineering-driven industries such as MedTech, Pharma, Automotive, Aerospace, or Heavy Industrial.
  • Knowledge of FDA-regulated environments and associated compliance considerations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams and external suppliers to deliver business results.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and program management skills, with strong judgment, problem-solving ability, and legal/contractual acumen.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter with strong collaboration skills and proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead category management for approximately $250M in annual R&D Services spend, developing and executing long-term, transformational sourcing strategies that create sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Build and mature the R&D Services category from an early stage by developing category strategies, supplier segmentation, and capability roadmaps.
  • Partner with cross-functional R&D stakeholders across a highly matrixed organization to influence strategy adoption and align sourcing decisions with business priorities.
  • Drive measurable year-over-year value improvements across cost, quality, service, and innovation.
  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives including RFx events, supplier selection, and complex contract negotiations to maximize value and manage risk.
  • Develop market intelligence, benchmarking, and gap analyses to identify opportunities, inform strategy, and recommend improvements to leadership.
  • Strengthen supplier management practices through supplier stratification, relationship management, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Improve procurement effectiveness by driving process and system enhancements, ensuring governance compliance, and educating stakeholders on sourcing policies and Procure-to-Pay practices.
