Sr. Staff Technical Project Manager (Product Engineering)

42dotSan Francisco, CA
$163,800 - $226,220

About The Position

As a Sr. Staff Technical Project Manager (TPM), you will lead the delivery of complex hardware, firmware, and software projects for our next-generation Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform. You will serve as the core link between internal engineering teams, global stakeholders, and top-tier suppliers. Operating effectively in ambiguous environments, you will steer programs from concept through validation, ensuring both technical milestones and corporate goals are met.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of technical project management experience driving complex embedded systems, semiconductor, or automotive platforms.
  • 10+ years in engineering or technical roles
  • Practical literacy in embedded systems architecture, hardware-software interfaces, and low-level firmware.
  • Hands-on experience running sprints, sprint planning, and retrospectives for engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of driving definition and alignment for PRDs, MRDs, and ERS documents within matrixed environments.
  • Experience tracking milestones bound to V-Model frameworks and formal ISO regulatory processes.
  • Experience managing technical partnerships and vendor deliverables with third-party software providers and silicon fabs.
  • Competency with enterprise collaboration, productivity, and ALM systems (e.g., Jira, Confluence, GitLab, CodeBeamer).
  • Ability to leverage modern AI and LLM tools within your workspace to accelerate documentation, synthesis, and project tracking.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience planning Program Increments (PIs) within scaled agile frameworks.
  • Experience managing programs involving major automotive semiconductors (e.g., Qualcomm or NXP).

Responsibilities

  • Drive concurrent, complex HW, FW, and SW engineering tracks for safety-critical SDV architectures.
  • Facilitate cross-functional development of key control documents (such as PRDs, MRDs, and ERS) by aligning Engineering with Business Development and PMO teams.
  • Lead weekly team meetings, facilitate sprints, coordinate planning sessions, and conduct retrospectives to maintain development velocity.
  • Monitor program progression through the V-model lifecycle, ensuring engineering execution aligns with validation (V&V) processes and ISO standards (e.g., ISO 26262, ISO 21434).
  • Conduct technical deep dives with silicon and software suppliers, manage development budgets, and drive product cost optimization.
  • Distill complex technical updates, architectures, and blockers into actionable, high-level milestones for non-technical stakeholders.
