About The Position

The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide. Corning is hiring a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Solution Architect to join our team in Charlotte, NC! In this role you will play a critical role in defining and delivering standardized, scalable Siemens Opcenter Execution (formerly Camstar) solutions across Corning’s global manufacturing network. You will partner closely with business leaders, manufacturing teams, and IT stakeholders to architect solutions that drive operational excellence, standardization, and digital transformation throughout the enterprise.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Management, or related technical discipline.
  • Strong leadership, systems thinking, and project management capabilities.
  • 5+ years of experience with enterprise application development.
  • Hands‑on experience supporting IT systems in mission‑critical, 24/7 manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of source code management practices and relational database design.
  • Deep knowledge of application development best practices, patterns, and architecture principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience developing with Siemens Opcenter Execution Designer and Portal.
  • Experience with Angular or modern UI frameworks.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools or techniques (e.g., copilots, code generation, automation, or predictive analytics) to improve solution design, development efficiency, or manufacturing system performance.
  • Knowledge of SDLC and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Flexible to meet with global partners outside standard business hours when needed.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to bridge business and technology perspectives.
  • Proven success delivering solutions that meet business needs while maintaining long-term technical sustainability.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to influence architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the strategic technical leader for Siemens Opcenter Execution, guiding solution architecture, design standards, and development practices across global sites.
  • Architect, implement, and support MES capabilities in alignment with Corning’s IT standards and manufacturing best practices.
  • Apply strong hands‑on expertise with Opcenter modeling and development tools (Designer, Portal) to design high‑quality, reusable, and scalable solutions.
  • Leverage deep technical skills in .NET, JavaScript, SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server to develop, integrate, and optimize MES capabilities.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and solution designs.
  • Ensure seamless integration between MES, ERP, and shop floor control systems—delivering a robust, end‑to‑end manufacturing digital ecosystem.
  • Lead MES activities on global projects, ensuring timelines, system impacts, documentation, and communication are managed effectively.
  • Deliver clear and actionable specifications for development teams to ensure accurate implementation.
