Sr. Staff ML Infra Engineer - Offline Infra & Training
About The Position
As a Staff Software Engineer, ML Infrastructure Engineer for Coupang’s Search & Discovery organization, you will design and implement durable, efficient software solutions for managing the structured and unstructured data used to train complex machine-learning models and serve them online. The organization optimizes customer navigation and supports business growth through search and recommendations. You will build scalable offline and online ML platforms for ranking, recommendation, and business decision-making. The work involves processing billions of user-interaction records and petabytes of raw log data into usable data objects, as well as serving complex ML models in real time to customers searching for and discovering products. The role calls for solving challenging engineering problems and delivering measurable business impact.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in applied machine learning.
- Experience with machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Java, with experience building production-grade ML systems.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, performance complexity, and the effects of computer architecture on software performance, such as I/O and memory tuning.
- Experience with big data tools and ETL frameworks such as Hadoop, Hive, Presto, Spark, Scala, and Apache Airflow.
- Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Experience deploying robust, scalable data pipelines that process petabytes of data.
- Experience managing mission-critical services with high throughput and low latency.
- Experience integrating applications and platforms with cloud technologies such as AWS and GCP.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct meetings, give professional presentations, and explain complex concepts and technical material to non-technical users.
- Experience with machine-learning platforms for search and discovery rankings.
Responsibilities
- Drive execution of the end-to-end data platform and data-quality roadmap for Search & Discovery ML efforts.
- Take ownership of and consolidate and optimize core Search & Discovery data logging, processing, and ML model training pipelines.
- Develop and scale data infrastructure for batch and real-time processing, monitoring, and debugging of ML experiments.
- Drive the design and implementation of scalable ML-based ranking systems and online ML inference services.
- Partner with Data Scientists, Analysts, Product Managers, Indexing Platform Engineers, Ranking Engineers, and Data Platform Engineers to understand and meet offline and online needs.
- Research, analyze, and select technical approaches to difficult development and integration problems.
- Coach and mentor other engineers in processes and methodologies.
