Sr. Staff Engineer

Hinge HealthSan Francisco, CA
$240,000 - $330,000

About The Position

Growth Engineering powers how potential members discover, enroll in, and return to Hinge Health’s MSK programs. The neighborhood spans 5 pods, about 50 engineers across the US and India, and drives measurable impact across revenue, bookings, and marketing reach. As Senior Staff Engineer, Growth, you will set the technical vision and modernization strategy across the neighborhood. You will turn growth goals and new AI and data opportunities into scalable architecture, high-impact roadmap bets, and faster experimentation. This is a key deputy to the Director of Growth Engineering: multi-quarter in scope, hands-on, and focused on multiplying impact across multiple pods.

Requirements

  • Significant experience as a senior IC owning architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams in growth, marketing, or consumer product environments.
  • Deep experience with modern web stacks such as React and Next.js, experimentation platforms such as Split.io, Statsig, or Optimizely, and event-driven data systems.
  • Strong track record building reliable data and activation platforms, including event taxonomies, data contracts, observability, and downstream data quality.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives, resolve architectural disagreements, and drive adoption of shared patterns.
  • Strong product partnership skills with experience shaping growth bets, experimentation strategies, and success metrics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading major modernization efforts such as framework migrations, experimentation platform consolidation, or large-scale data migrations.
  • Experience with backend-for-frontend patterns and workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal.
  • Experience standardizing AI-augmented engineering workflows at team or org scale.
  • Prior experience operating at Senior Staff or Principal scope in a high-growth environment.
  • Familiarity with healthcare, B2B2C, or other regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical vision and modernization strategy across the Growth Engineering neighborhood.
  • Turn growth goals and new AI and data opportunities into scalable architecture, high-impact roadmap bets, and faster experimentation.
  • Learn the Growth stack end to end, from data ingestion and activation to measurement and conversion surfaces.
  • Build strong partnerships across Product, Marketing, Data Science, Platform Engineering, and Staff engineers across all 5 pods.
  • Author and drive an initial high-impact RFC, such as experimentation convergence, BFF strategy, or event taxonomy.
  • Publish the architectural vision for Growth’s data and activation stack, including API boundaries, event pipelines, and third-party integrations.
  • Lead the MWeb Next.js migration strategy and the SplitIO to Statsig convergence plan.
  • Improve trust in Growth data through observability standards, SLOs, and data contracts.
  • Standardize platform patterns such as BFFs, Temporal adoption, CI and testing templates, and deployment practices.
  • Improve cross-pod execution through clearer ownership, faster dependency resolution, and more consistent architecture.
  • Lead 2 or more major cross-pod initiatives from concept to production.
  • Turn AI and engineering automation opportunities into durable leverage across the neighborhood.
  • Develop Staff engineers into strong pod-level technical leaders.
