About The Position

PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and releasing software applications using a variety of technologies including JavaScript, NodeJS, React, Express or ES6, SQL/No-SQL databases, HTML, and CSS frameworks. The engineer will participate in design decisions, provide scalable design solutions, and write unit and integration tests. Responsibilities include conducting code reviews, maintaining high coding standards, and providing operational support through CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and alerts. The role requires engaging with cross-functional teams, offering design insights, and participating in on-call support rotations. Additionally, the engineer will mentor team members, drive architecture discussions, produce design documents, and migrate old software code to new technologies. The position involves building various applications such as Web-apps, APIs, and browser extensions, ensuring code quality and maintainability through architecture evolution, refactoring, and improving build and test systems. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field plus five years of experience in the job offered, software engineering, or a related occupation.
  • Distributed systems and microservices architecture
  • JavaScript, Node.js, Express, HTML and CSS
  • Experience with React.js or Angular
  • Browser extension such as Chrome, Safari or Mobile Safari
  • GraphQL, REST APIs, and supporting network protocols
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and release software applications using JavaScript, NodeJS, React, Express or ES6, SQL/No-SQL databases, HTML, CSS frameworks.
  • Participate in design decisions and provide robust scalable design solutions.
  • Write unit and integration tests, conduct code reviews, and maintain high coding standards.
  • Provide operational support to ensure the quality of application(s), by setting up CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and alerts.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams, provide design insights, and handle inquiries from stakeholders as part of on-call support rotations.
  • Mentor team members and provide guidelines for coding best practices and newer technologies.
  • Drive architecture discussions, produce well-documented design documents.
  • Migrate old software code to new technologies and software architecture to take advantage of the latest technologies.
  • Build various applications like Web-apps, APIs, and browser extensions.
  • Ensure code quality and maintainability by evolving architecture and tech stack, refactoring, standards, and improving build and test systems.
