Sr. Software Engineer, Hardware Integration

SiTime Corporation•Ann Arbor, MI
•$99,900 - $137,370

About The Position

SiTime is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to independently design, develop, and maintain software for semiconductor test systems and engineering infrastructure. The role combines strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on electronic hardware integration and debugging. The ideal candidate can turn ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable software, make sound architectural decisions, and investigate problems across the hardware-software boundary. This is primarily a software engineering position; prior electronic circuit or board design experience is valuable but not required. The position involves owning substantial software components and systems through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and long-term maintenance. The engineer will build automated test applications for engineering laboratories and manufacturing, integrate software with instruments and hardware configurations, and collaborate with hardware, validation, and manufacturing engineers. International travel for production support is expected, approximately one month per year.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated capability through substantial software personally designed, delivered, and maintained.
  • Proven ownership of software systems, including architectural decisions, implementation, and ongoing support.
  • Strong programming ability in Python and at least one of C, C++, or C#, with a solid understanding of software design, testing, and debugging.
  • Practical experience integrating software with electronic hardware and systematically troubleshooting problems across that boundary.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and component datasheets.
  • Hands-on familiarity with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or comparable electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to explain technical tradeoffs, work independently, and communicate clearly across engineering teams.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for production support, approximately one month per year.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with instrument-control or data-acquisition systems used in laboratory or production environments.
  • Experience with embedded controllers, FPGAs, device drivers, or hardware abstraction layers.
  • Experience using serial communication protocols to connect embedded systems and peripherals.
  • Experience with semiconductor test, automated test equipment, or manufacturing systems.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), monitoring, and production software reliability.
  • Experience designing electronic circuits or printed circuit boards.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and long-term maintenance of substantial software components and systems.
  • Design modular software interfaces for instruments, fixtures, embedded controllers, and multiple hardware configurations.
  • Build and improve automated test applications used in engineering laboratories and manufacturing.
  • Diagnose hardware-software issues using code-level debugging, logs, measurement data, and hands-on electronic test equipment.
  • Design for concurrency, resource ownership, fault recovery, data integrity, and testability.
  • Collaborate with hardware, validation, and manufacturing engineers, including supporting deployment at global production sites.
  • Improve code quality through reviews, automated tests, documentation, and continuous integration and delivery practices.

Benefits

  • 401k plan
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Life insurance
  • Parental leave
  • Legal services
  • Time off plans
  • Quarterly bonus tied to achievement of innovation goals
  • Equity grants
