About The Position

Slate is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to design and build features and services for its digital platform. The platform connects customers with Slate throughout their journey, from discovering and customizing a vehicle to managing ownership. The role owns the design and delivery of complex features and services, works closely with product and UX teams, and contributes directly to the customer experience. It calls for sound technical judgment in an evolving environment, balancing speed with long-term quality and making decisions with incomplete information.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of professional software development experience building customer-facing software systems.
• Experience owning the design and delivery of complex features or services and making sound technical trade-offs.
• Experience building reliable, scalable web services and APIs, with working knowledge of cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to solve complex problems, simplify where possible, and deliver high-quality work with minimal direction.
• Experience integrating third-party services through APIs, events, or webhooks.
• Must be authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with ecommerce or marketplace systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver complex features and services, determining the technical approach for new assignments.
• Code and test system components and provide constructive code and design reviews.
• Own end-to-end quality, including unit, functional, and integration testing.
• Simplify complex problems and apply creativity and good judgment.
• Work with UX and product teams to turn customer needs into solutions.
• Serve as a trusted technical resource and make sound trade-off decisions.
• Understand the customer and business impact of technical choices and raise risks early.
• Build relationships beyond the immediate team, coordinate others’ work, and mentor and support teammates.
