Sr Software Engineer in Test
About The Position
Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization that builds and advances the technological foundation for Disney’s media business. Product Engineering develops Disney Entertainment and ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms, including product engineering, media engineering, quality engineering, personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity systems. The Product Engineering team is seeking a Sr. Software Development in Test Engineer for its Engineering Services team. This role builds test automation and processes to ensure the quality of advertising systems. The systems help deliver relevant advertisements to viewers, support business revenue, and contribute to the viewer experience. The role offers an opportunity to influence quality engineering and automation practices and the products released. Successful candidates are independent, creative, and effective in ambiguous circumstances, with a strong interest in automated testing and its business impact. The position works with software engineers to understand the advertising ecosystem and develops UI, API, and integration test automation. It contributes to platform design, end-to-end acceptance testing, issue triage and resolution, and manual testing where automation is not practical, while driving conversion of manual tests to automation. The engineer also leads projects, reviews code, owns software design within the team and organization, develops frameworks, and advances engineering practices and scalable, robust, cloud-native solutions using Agile methods.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on software test development experience, including functional and non-functional test development.
- Passion for driving best practices in testing.
- Proficiency with Python or another object-oriented language.
- Knowledge of software engineering practices and Agile approaches.
- Strong desire to establish and improve product quality.
- Experience building or improving test automation frameworks.
- Proficiency in CI/CD integration and pipeline development with Jenkins, Spinnaker, or similar tools.
- Proficiency in UI automation using Selenium, Robot, Watir, or similar tools.
- Experience with Gherkin (BDD/TDD).
- Willingness to take on challenges while working as part of a team.
- B.S. in Computer Science, an equivalent degree, or equivalent work experience.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Software Engineers to understand the complex advertising ecosystem at DE&E Technology.
- Develop automated test frameworks and suites for UI, API, and integration testing using Python or another object-oriented language.
- Participate in platform design discussions and help evolve the platform to enable richer testing scenarios and simplify defect detection and prevention.
- Assist with triage, diagnosis, and resolution of issues discovered across teams.
- Contribute to end-to-end acceptance tests.
- Develop and execute manual test cases when issues cannot be detected through automated means.
- Drive conversion of manual tests to automated tests whenever possible.
- Help product teams build robust, fault-tolerant, cloud-native architectures.
- Build and deploy solutions for problems of sizeable scope and complexity.
- Influence and drive software engineering best practices within the team.
- Technically lead and deliver multiple projects using an Agile methodology and review team members’ code.
- Participate in developing technical and/or business approaches and new or enhanced technical tools.
- Own the design of software programs or systems within the team and organization.
- Write code that establishes and enhances frameworks.
- Review code for design, testability, and clear usability.
- Build solutions that scale and perform.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, products, or services with each iteration.
