Sr. Software Engineer, GI

Hinge HealthSan Francisco, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

Hinge Health is expanding into new areas beyond physical therapy, launching a new product line for Gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. This is an opportunity to build a new product from scratch in a significant market. As a Senior Software Engineer for GI, you will contribute to defining and building a comprehensive, end-to-end digital care product for the 60M+ Americans affected by GI conditions. Hinge Health differentiates itself by combining licensed care providers with AI solutions and medical-grade hardware. You will collaborate with staff engineers and cross-functional partners in Product, Design, and Marketing across global hubs. As a hands-on engineer, you will contribute to and review code daily, improve code quality, and independently ship impactful features.

Requirements

  • A minimum Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field
  • A minimum of 3 + years of non-internship full time professional software development experience
  • 4+ years of experience with at least one software programming language
  • 4+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle
  • Experience delivering large software projects or features in a production environment
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.)
  • We are looking for an engineer with a track record of building brand new products from scratch.
  • You have been using the latest AI software development techniques (ex: teams of AI Agents) and continuously look for new AI techniques that can improve your productivity.
  • You move fast , know how to balance innovation vs reuse, and deliver clear business results.
  • You’re reading and writing code across the tech stack (e.g., React Native, BFF/full-stack web, GraphQL, AI Agents, Computer Vision, Medical Device Integration, etc), and you use that fluency to coach, review, and set technical direction.
  • You think in terms of hypotheses, sample sizes, and decision rules, and you can run a dense A/B experimentation roadmap without sacrificing quality.
  • You enjoy leveling up a strong but more junior team through pairing, code reviews, design discussions, and clear written communication.
  • You think in terms of systems and business impact, not just tickets—you’re comfortable taking a problem from idea through launch, measurement, and iteration.
  • You create clear expectations, give direct feedback, and foster a culture where engineers can do the best work of their careers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building in large React Native codebases, TypeScript/Node.js & Go backends, GraphQL, AWS services (e.g., Lambda, SQS, SNS, SageMaker), tooling for client performance, render optimization, devops and app architecture patterns.
  • History operating a product surface that integrates across multiple platforms owned by different teams.
  • Track record of running experiments (e.g., A/B tests or multivariate tests) on core product surfaces and using results to drive roadmap decisions.
  • Strong proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript , React Native, and modern mobile development tooling; familiarity with backend services (e.g., Node/TypeScript, GraphQL, or similar) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews, design collaboration, and technical guidance.
  • Comfort collaborating with product, design, and data/analytics partners to define metrics, interpret results, and refine experiences.
  • Experience developing consumer-facing apps used by millions/billions of users.
  • Experience working within healthcare (HIPAA) or other highly regulated domains involving sensitive member data.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to defining the GI product line from scratch.
  • Deliver at least 1 large project that introduces new product capabilities, often acting as a maintainer for key code repositories.
  • Break down complex problems into manageable tasks, ensuring steady and predictable delivery while identifying and resolving root causes of incidents.
  • Exhibit strong user and business judgment, grounding decisions in customer needs and business priorities to drive durable product value.
  • Communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical partners, and document solutions for future reference.
  • Implement key functionalities of the new GI product delivering high-quality, bug-free, high-performance software on a tight schedule.
  • Have a track record of independently driving 3+ high-complexity projects from the roadmap as their engineering leader.
  • Implement engineering best practices such CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, or client performance across the code repo you support.
  • Proactively improve the maintainability, availability, and performance of the team’s features, and contribute to the team’s overall architecture and developer tooling.
  • Integrate and leverage AI technologies to automate processes and enhance product features, contributing to Hinge Health’s AI-driven care platform.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, providing thoughtful code reviews and real-time pairing.
  • Have launched the new product and already work on iterations to adapt it using real member feedback post-launch.
  • Drive cross-team initiatives to improve the end-to-end journey for GI end users.
  • Continuously raise engineering standards on the pod (testing, observability, reliability, accessibility, performance) and help scale the team’s impact as the product and membership grow.
