About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. The Applications and Analytics team is central to innovation, developing digital solutions to transform customer and community energy experiences. Guided by a Digital First strategy, the team uses modern technical practices and agile methodologies to create intuitive software that delivers business value and enhances user experiences. The Sr. Software Configuration Analyst – GIS, within the Geospatial Applications product team, is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and optimizing ArcGIS-based corporate software solutions, including Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) applications. This role involves making key architectural decisions, enhancing solution performance, and ensuring seamless integration with business processes. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential for guiding best-practice adoption and continuously improving software quality.

Requirements

Expert-level scripting proficiency in languages relevant to COTS applications (e.g., OneStream – .NET, C#; PowerPlan – SQL; ServiceNow – SQL; Integrations – SQL; Visual Basic; or ABAP).
Strong ability to coach, mentor, and teach others while leading technical components within product teams.
Comprehensive understanding of business processes and enterprise software ecosystems, with the ability to influence both technical and business stakeholders.
Skilled in vendor management and negotiation, including navigating technical and compliance constraints within vendor platforms.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a demonstrated capability to assess challenges and refine technical approaches to improve solution outcomes.
High attention to detail, ensuring all software configurations and solutions meet rigorous quality and performance standards.
Ability to promote collaboration within teams and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that ensure clarity in technical discussions and alignment among stakeholders.
Ability to publish ArcGIS web maps, dashboards, mobile data collection tools, and custom GIS applications.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field with four (4) or more years of experience in software configuration, development, testing, system administration, and/or maintenance
Associate's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related discipline with six (6) or more years of experience in software configuration, development, testing, system administration, and/or maintenance
High School Diploma/GED with degree with eight (8) or more years of experience in software configuration, development, testing, system administration, and/or maintenance

Responsibilities

Develop scripts or software components within vendor-provided solutions to perform advanced configuration tasks, enable automation, and implement system enhancements.
Apply deep knowledge of business processes to gather business and data requirements, evaluate potential solutions, and recommend software options that meet organizational goals. Ensure vendor solutions align with business needs and integrate effectively with existing systems.
Make significant architectural decisions and contribute to overall system design. Lead the integration of COTS solutions into the existing technology ecosystem, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term sustainability.
Identify opportunities for process automation and optimization to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Continuously improve COTS solution quality throughout the software lifecycle by incorporating emerging best practices and relevant innovations.
Design and administer application systems using database management principles and methodologies, including data structures, data modeling, data warehousing, and transaction processing.
Configure and administer Azure-based ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, utility asset datasets, mobile applications, and associated components within a secure, highly available environment.
Provide Tier 2 or Tier 3 support for ArcGIS platforms and integrated systems; prepare documentation, standards, and training materials.
Integrate ArcGIS with utilities applications and enterprise systems using APIs, web services, and ETL tools.
May perform other duties as assigned.
