About The Position

NBCUniversal is seeking a creative engineer who can learn from established processes while also thinking outside the box. The Sr. Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for engineering, operating, supporting, deploying, and maintaining core Distribution Engineering Playout systems across on-premises and cloud environments. The role develops and operates automated infrastructure and tools, supports product release cycles and CI/CD deployments, improves reliability and monitoring, and investigates broadcast issues. It includes rotating 24/7 on-call support.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Strong experience with IP video, streaming, and broadcast technologies.
At least 5 years of experience in modern infrastructure deployment and maintenance.
At least 5 years of experience with enterprise configuration management tools and automation platforms such as Ansible or Terraform.
Expertise architecting and configuring hosted cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Expertise with networking and cloud-based network environments.
Expertise with containerization and Kubernetes.
Experience with CI/CD build and deployment practices.
Experience administering Linux environments.
An automate-first, automate-everything approach.
Experience with multiple scripting languages, such as Python, JavaScript, Perl, Ruby, or Bash.
Ability to use Agile processes for project management, development, and tracking.
AI literacy, including the ability to identify opportunities to apply AI in monitoring, automation, problem management, and reliability improvement.
Comfort working in a fast-paced Agile environment where requirements change quickly.
Ability to provide rotating 24/7 on-call support.

Responsibilities

Develop automated methods to provision, upgrade, and monitor Distribution Engineering infrastructure and tools.
Develop proof-of-concept deployments to evaluate products and architectures.
Identify single points of failure in new and existing systems and propose and deploy more reliable, scalable solutions.
Drive product release cycles; deploy code to integration, staging, and production environments; integrate CI/CD tooling, monitoring, and change management.
Mentor SREs on DevOps best practices.
Deploy cloud infrastructure and associated playout software using CI/CD methodologies.
Interact with automated monitoring infrastructure to ensure healthy environments.
Create new metrics and identify monitoring deliverables to improve site reliability.
Evaluate new software releases for basic reliability and systems integration support.
Develop future products and services for NBCUniversal's IP video distribution environment.
Own and drive investigations related to broadcast issues and report findings to leadership and operations in a timely manner.
Stay current with AI-driven engineering practices while validating AI-generated outputs and ensuring their security and responsible use.
