About The Position

Responsible for uniformed patrols and crime prevention services to protect life and property. Proactively supports and maintains a positive rapport with patients, parents, caregivers, families, staff and visitors. Enforces St. Jude policies and regulations. Coordinates with Security Management in the preliminary and follow-up investigation of complaints. Reports offenses and disruptions. Provides written incident reports and maintain records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • 2+ years of security related experience (e.g., security program, police organization, military branch, conflict counselling).
  • Experience in data entry and working in emergency situations and fast pace stressful environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license from the employee’s state of residence and be insurable by St. Jude's insurance carrier.
  • Must attain Licensed Unarmed Security Officer certification for the State of Tennessee within 60 days of employment.
  • Evaluates situations quickly, foresees problems and selects effective solutions; modifies approach if appropriate.

  • Able to investigate and resolve security incidents, under minimal supervision.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate records of incidents and problems/issues as needed.
  • Showcases good understanding of security policies, procedures and applicable laws (e.g., Crime- felony, misdemeanor, federal and state laws).
  • Performs a wide variety of duties in support of security requirements, with minimal supervision.
  • Undergoes and clears necessary background checks and driving skills.
  • Successfully complete a physical/health screening examination by Occupational Health, which includes a drug screening; successfully meet and maintain Campus Safety and Security physical requirements.

  • Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and officers must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, and run.
  • Run moderate distances and/or go up and /or down flights of steps; read, interpret, and understand St. Jude Children’s policies and procedures.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must maintain the ability to move about the workspace to access work surface and shelves, cabinets, drawers, and equipment that are at, below or above the work surface.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience with computer systems, including Microsoft Office (Word/ Excel etc.), with some experience maintaining records, preferred.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide institution-wide flawless customer service by responding to inquiries and resolving issues or complaints (e.g., issuance of personnel badges and hangtags).
  • Act as a communication specialist during emergency situations (e.g., Fire, Severe Weather, 911 Calls).
  • Coordinate with Security Management in the preliminary and follow-up investigation of complaints.
  • Maintain daily reports & records and provide written incident reports on all activities during their given shift (e.g., offenses, disruptions).
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or in vehicles assigned to Security and/or Transportation.
  • Conduct security inspection of campus facilities and areas, reporting conditions as necessary.
  • Direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic and enforce campus parking regulations as needed.
  • Provide security and transportation services for VIP’s and other dignitaries.
  • Provide escort for money handling facilities.
  • Operate security related equipment such as computers, radios, electronic access control systems, intercoms, and closed-circuit televisions.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance activity related to performing security services, such as DNV Environment of Care standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
