About The Position

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Unity Lab Services Scientific Support team, which provides tailored laboratory services and supply management solutions. The Sr. Scientific Support Specialist supports laboratory operations through shipment coordination, filtration and aliquot preparation, equipment maintenance, labware operations, and supply management. The role helps keep laboratories stocked, compliant, safe, and operating efficiently while supporting research environments. Work is primarily performed independently at customer sites in laboratory settings, which may include chemical-based allergens such as penicillin and tetracycline. The position requires adherence to standard operating procedures, Best Practices, work instructions, safety requirements, and customer requirements. The role includes an after-hours on-call rotation to monitor and respond to cold-storage alarms, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may require reporting to the customer site. Overtime may be necessary.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of work experience in a laboratory setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with a safety-first approach.
• Ability to read and understand safety data sheets (SDS) and DOT labeling requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Availability for after-hours on-call response, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and ability to report to the customer site when needed.
• Ability to regularly lift 30–40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; ability to use pushcarts and forklifts to move loads up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, and manual handling of chemical containers, sometimes in varied temperature environments.
• Ability to meet Thermo Fisher Scientific pre-employment screening requirements, including background check and drug test, as well as any customer-mandated screening, credentialing, or badging requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and respond to cold-storage alarms during regular business hours and as part of an after-hours on-call rotation; investigate conditions, identify root causes, and coordinate or implement resolutions.
• Initiate work orders and relocate temperature-sensitive inventory when necessary to resolve cold-storage alarm conditions.
• Receive, inspect, label, and store incoming and outgoing research shipments in accordance with compatibility guidelines and DOT regulations.
• Perform filtration and aliquot preparation according to standard operating procedures and document work accurately and completely.
• Place gas-cylinder orders, understand gas meters, and safely manage encounters with hazardous materials.
• Conduct routine laboratory equipment maintenance to support effective operation and meet safety and compliance standards.
• Perform labware operations, including precision cleaning, inventory management, quality control, and sterilization by autoclaving.
• Follow Best Practices, standard operating procedures, and work instructions.
• Maintain accurate records, fulfill contractual obligations, and assist in tracking business metrics.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
