About The Position

Thumbtack is seeking a Sr. Recruiting Manager for Engineering and Data to lead the full technical recruiting vertical. This is a player-coach role where you will manage a Senior Recruiter and maintain your own requisition load. You will act as the senior talent partner for the Engineering and Data organizations, managing leadership relationships, developing hiring strategies, and improving technical talent acquisition processes. The role reports to the Director of NA Recruiting. The Talent Acquisition Team at Thumbtack is a lean, high-performing group that partners strategically with business leaders. They are building an AI-native recruiting operation, leveraging data and technology to enhance talent acquisition. The team prioritizes quality of hire and operates with urgency, viewing recruiting as a key driver for Thumbtack's scale.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, including significant experience recruiting for Engineering and/or Data organizations
  • 2+ years of experience leading recruiters, including performance management, coaching, workload planning, and professional development
  • Demonstrated success building trusted partnerships with senior business leaders and influencing hiring decisions through data and market insights
  • Strong expertise in structured interviewing, selection methodologies and recruiting process design
  • Experience leading complex offer negotiations and advising stakeholders on talent market dynamics, hiring strategy, and close plans
  • Proven ability to use recruiting analytics and funnel metrics to identify opportunities, diagnose challenges, and drive measurable improvements
  • A practiced, hands-on relationship with AI tools in your recruiting workflow and a point of view on where AI creates real leverage

Responsibilities

  • Own all Engineering and Data recruiting end-to-end: intake through close, across a portfolio of technical roles at all levels
  • Directly manage and develop a Senior Recruiter while maintaining your own requisition load as a player-coach
  • Build and execute talent strategies for Engineering and Data, including long-term pipeline development for hard-to-fill and senior roles
  • Serve as the primary recruiting partner to Engineering and Data leadership — owning relationships, driving alignment, and holding hiring teams accountable to process and quality standards
  • Use funnel data and hiring outcome metrics to diagnose recruiting challenges, identify root causes, and drive process improvements independently
  • Contribute to Thumbtack’s AI-native recruiting agenda — identifying where AI tooling can improve how we source, screen, and evaluate technical talent
