Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • 3 years any combination of athletic field complex or facility maintenance required.
  • 2 years of staff supervision required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to delegate work, motivate staff, plan and coordinate operations, collaborate effectively with others, and make sound decisions in complex situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Synthetic turf care & maintenance experience.
  • One 1 year of experience managing multiple facilities.
  • Five years’ experience in parks and recreation with field supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily operational oversight of recreation sports complexes and facilities, ensuring high standards of upkeep, cleanliness, safety, and readiness for public use.
  • Coordinates and monitors routine facility repairs, maintenance activities.
  • Reporting to the Maintenance Specialist, this position will take ownership of ensuring required building permits, inspections, and licenses remain current and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Evaluates field conditions to determine safe playability for leagues, tournaments, and special events.
  • Assesses field and facility maintenance needs, prioritizes daily work assignments, and directs staff in routine maintenance, repairs, and equipment upkeep to support safe, efficient, and well-maintained operations.
  • Identifies and performs a wide range of grounds, landscape, facility trash, restroom cleaning, and athletic field maintenance duties requiring the operation of vehicles, powered equipment, and specialized tools.
  • Operates and maintains light and medium-duty equipment including tractors, trucks, utv's, skid steers, power brooms, boom lifts, commercial mowers, and snow removal equipment.
  • Performs routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and seasonal changeovers between mowing and snow removal equipment.
  • Oversees the maintenance of synthetic athletic turf systems, including grooming, decompaction, debris removal, infill management, surface repairs, seam and inlay inspections and routine performance evaluations to ensure safe, high-quality playing surfaces.
  • Coordinates specialized maintenance practices that maximize turf longevity, appearance, playability, and manufacturer warranty compliance.
  • Maintains natural turf and landscaped areas through mowing, fertilization, herbicide applications, soil amendments, aeration, overseeding, erosion repair, mulching, tree and flower planting, and trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs to promote healthy, sustainable landscapes.
  • Manages and maintains irrigation systems and the JCPRD backflow prevention program, ensuring efficient water use, system performance, regulatory compliance, and the long-term health and sustainability of natural turf and landscaped areas.
  • Provide daily operational support for Okun Fieldhouse, helping ensure the facility is safe, clean, and ready for daily operations and special events.
  • Serves as the senior support employee for the Park Worker I and all assigned part time employees by assisting with recruiting, training, coordinating daily work assignments, inspecting completed work, sharing expertise, and helping maintain high standards of facility maintenance.
  • Works with direct supervisor to oversee the maintenance, repair and scheduling of equipment usage.
  • Works with staff to ensure that all maintenance, repairs and equipment usage is completed in a safe manner and within best practices.
  • Assists direct supervisor in the development and implementation of a yearly maintenance plan.
  • Leads the development of a high performing organization through active demonstration of the county’s pillars of performance, encouraging leadership and empowerment at all levels of the organization; dedicates QII activities for self and staff; actively mentors, coaches, and collaborates with employees to enhance the county mission and vision keeping in mind the common goal of leaving our community better than we found it.
