About The Position

This is a remote, full-time senior position responsible for reinforcing-steel estimating and detailing, as well as developing the company’s preconstruction processes and estimating standards. The successful candidate will serve as a technical resource to estimating, project management, and operations teams. The role includes independently reviewing structural drawings and specifications, performing reinforcing-steel takeoffs, developing labor and material pricing, assessing detailing requirements and constructability, and communicating project cost and risk to management. Periodic travel to project sites and company meetings is required. The position reports to the President / Executive Management. The role also supports project turnover, change-order pricing, field and project teams, production benchmarking, and the development of historical cost information. The successful candidate will establish standardized procedures, templates, quality-control practices, and production-rate databases; help select and implement estimating and detailing software; mentor junior estimators and detailers; and eventually assume responsibility for the company’s reinforcing-steel estimating and detailing function. The company seeks substantial hands-on reinforcing-steel industry experience, particularly in estimating and detailing or reviewing placing drawings. A formal college degree is not required when the candidate has substantial relevant industry experience. Success includes independently estimating major bids, identifying scope and constructability risks, producing reliable tonnage and labor estimates, improving estimating consistency, and building a scalable estimating/detailing department.

  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final estimates; assist management with bid strategy and selling price.
  • Solicit and evaluate material, fabrication, freight, and subcontractor pricing when required.
  • Maintain organized estimate documentation and assumptions.
  • Review structural drawings and specifications for detailing requirements and prepare and/or review reinforcing-steel placing drawings and bar lists.
  • Coordinate reinforcing steel with structural, architectural, and MEP requirements.
  • Identify conflicts, congestion, and constructability issues; review bar sizes, bends, laps, development lengths, couplers, dowels, and construction joints.
  • Coordinate reinforcing-steel RFIs, drawing revisions, and changes throughout projects.
  • Review shop and placing drawings for accuracy and constructability.
  • Work with project management and field personnel to resolve detailing and constructability issues.
