The purpose of this role is to lead and/or oversee projects and key deliverables for Corporate Underwriting activities, ensuring Quality Assurance and Risk Management principles are applied throughout the Pricing & Underwriting Division.

Requirements

  • Advanced experience with MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in business, finance, risk management or related area with additional insurance and management related coursework or competencies gained through Underwriting, Audit or Finance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and oversees the company’s Underwriting Management Ecosystem, including portfolio composition, underwriting strategies, underwriting authorities, quality assurance processes, and referral requirements.
  • Serves as the Team Lead for the annual Business Continuity Plan for the Pricing and Underwriting Division, identifying core processes for each department in cooperation with IRM.
  • Conducts Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) Reviews to ensure users of DUA make business decisions in accordance with granted authority.
  • Oversees annual Large Deal Referral analyses for distribution partners with significant Written Premium or catastrophe exposure to mitigate accumulation risk.
  • Ensures the companywide Underwriting Strategy remains updated, reflects the organization’s underwriting risk appetite, and includes annual monitoring of Delegated Underwriting Authority Letters of Authority.
  • Evaluates risks by analyzing financial data and assessing risk factors to ensure the company operates within its underwriting risk tolerance.
  • Creates and assesses processes that optimize underwriting risk to drive sustainable, predictable profit, including devising early warning systems.
  • Consults with business stakeholders using design thinking principles, analyzes complex problems or opportunities, and develops data-driven proof of concepts to support strategic decision making.
  • Develops guidelines, models, best practices, quality assurance standards, and methods, including identifying emerging risks and market trends for proactive market cycle management.
  • Uses business intelligence tools and data visualization techniques to represent data for financial storytelling, identifying trends, and developing preventative actions to drive profitability.
  • Conducts data-driven analyses leveraging risk-based methodology.
  • Participates in the annual cycle of Risk Control Self-Assessment regarding conformance with the Operational Risk Control System for the development, monitoring, and modification of operational controls.
