About The Position

Reporting to the Executive Vice Dean, this role serves as an advisor and strategic leader responsible for advancing a complex portfolio of academic, research, and operational priorities across the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the broader university. The position works in close partnership with the Executive Vice Dean to drive the development, coordination, and execution of high-impact initiatives that span departments, divisions, and institutional leadership. This position is responsible for translating institutional priorities into actionable plans and ensuring alignment, accountability, and timely execution. It plays a central role in convening stakeholders, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and advancing initiatives that require complex and sensitive coordination across academic units, administrative offices, and external partners. Operating with a high degree of independence, the Sr. Project Manager of Faculty Affairs works on the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives, supports academic program and organizational development, and ensures continuity and progress on key priorities emerging from senior leadership discussions. The role requires the ability to anticipate needs, synthesize complex information, and produce high-quality written and analytical deliverables in support of executive decision-making. This position requires a sophisticated understanding of the academic environment, including faculty governance, research initiatives and administration, and interdisciplinary program development. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong judgment, exceptional written and oral communication skills, and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with faculty, senior leaders, and institutional partners to achieve strategic outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Seven years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite software applications, along with general understanding of other JHU applications to retrieve data for reporting and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and de facto chief-of-staff to the Executive Vice Dean, advancing priority initiatives and ensuring that strategic direction and decisions are implemented effectively across academic and administrative units.
  • Manage a portfolio of complex, high-priority initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and successful execution from concept through implementation.
  • Translate institutional priorities into actionable plans, establishing clear direction, accountability, and follow-through to ensure timely and effective outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver high-level written materials, including memoranda of understanding, academic proposals, reports, and executive communications, to support decision-making and institutional alignment.
  • Prepare the Executive Vice Dean for meetings and engagements by developing briefings, synthesizing complex information, and identifying key issues and decision points.
  • In partnership with the Executive Vice Dean, engage faculty, academic leaders, and administrative stakeholders to advance strategic priorities, build alignment, and drive progress on complex interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Coordinate and guide cross-functional efforts involving multiple departments, divisions, and external partners to ensure effective collaboration and execution.
  • Support the development and launch of academic programs, including interdisciplinary offerings, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy and academic priorities.
  • Advance initiatives related to faculty hiring and academic planning, supporting strategic recruitment efforts and continuity across academic units.
  • Coordinate and support efforts related to faculty research, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and collaboration across relevant units.
  • Coordinate and guide committees, working groups, and advisory bodies to advance strategic priorities and ensure progress on key deliverables.
  • Monitor progress across initiatives, identify risks or barriers, and provide regular updates, analysis, and recommendations to the Executive Vice Dean and senior leadership.
  • Identify emerging opportunities and areas for strategic growth, supporting the Executive Vice Dean in shaping future academic and research priorities.
  • Exercise a high level of discretion, judgment, and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Anticipate future needs and proactively plan to ensure alignment with evolving institutional goals and priorities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Executive Vice Dean and the Office of the Dean.
