Sr. Project Engineer

Parsons•Atlantic City, NJ

About The Position

Parsons is seeking a Technical Specialist (Pavement/Materials) for its Federal Aviation Administration Technical Support Services Contract 5 (T5). The role focuses on the empirical evaluation, modeling, and optimization of runway material systems and experimental pavement designs. It evaluates long-term pavement durability, load distribution, and structural stress behavior; the role does not involve structural engineering signing or stamping duties, and a Professional Engineer license is not required. T5 supports the FAA’s Capital Investment Plan and reimbursable programs, NextGen, national security programs, and aviation safety. Work includes site selection and engineering, construction, environmental and fire/life safety, equipment installation and testing, drafting, contract surveillance, and other technical services. Work is conducted across the FAA’s nine regions, at its Oklahoma City and Atlantic City centers, and in several U.S. territories. The position is part of Parsons’ Federal Solutions team, which delivers services and solutions to U.S. government customers in defense, security, intelligence, infrastructure, and environmental areas. Green Card or U.S. citizenship is required. No security clearance is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Applied Statistics, Data Analytics, Transportation Planning, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Advanced competency in statistical modeling software such as SAS, R, or MATLAB, GIS mapping tools, and data interpretation framework tools.
  • Deep theoretical understanding of multilayer pavement systems, stress-strain behavior profiles, and FAA/ICAO international aviation regulatory standards.
  • Green Card or U.S. citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. or doctorate in Material Science, Applied Statistics, Data Analytics, Transportation Planning, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Experience modifying existing design configurations to achieve requirements.
  • Experience working with construction personnel to define parameters and assess material receipts for compliance.
  • Focus on the chemistry, mathematics, modeling, and data analytics behind complex materials.

Responsibilities

  • Develop statistical frameworks using Design of Experiments, Response Surface Methodology, and factorial layouts to assess runway materials, paving interlayers, and subgrade stabilization techniques.
  • Apply computational models to predict pavement distress, rutting, cracking, and hydroplaning risks under aircraft load cycles and simulated climate patterns.
  • Analyze physical and chemical properties of aggregate baselines, geosynthetic interlayers, and crushable concrete technologies such as EMAS components.
  • Combine field data and laboratory analyses to recommend ways to improve runway life cycles to civil aviation authorities, project directors, and engineering firms.
  • Author technical whitepapers, research findings, and external grant proposals for airport infrastructure longevity studies.
  • Modify existing design configurations to achieve requirements.
  • Work with construction personnel to define parameters and assess material receipts for compliance.

Benefits

  • Growth opportunities
