About The Position

A Cath RN is a member of the Cardiac & Vascular service line, which includes the Heart Catheterization Labs, Electrophysiology Labs, and Interventional Radiology. The nurse participates in cases in several roles, including monitoring patients through the MAC Lab system, circulating in the procedure room, and serving as first scrub assist to the Invasive Cardiologist. Cases include heart catheterizations, peripheral angiographies, interventional radiology procedures, pacemakers, ablations, and STEMIs. The nurse will be cross-trained in Interventional Radiology and the EP Lab. The position follows a day/evening schedule. Weekend and holiday scheduled shifts are excluded, but the nurse participates in a call rotation that typically includes weekday, weekend, and holiday call. Current call requirements are one weekday and every third-to-fourth weekend; requirements may change based on staffing availability. Title and starting pay rate may vary based on years of experience. The nurse provides professional, evidence-based care within the Relationship Based Care framework; supports quality improvement, patient safety, and a healing environment; and serves as a clinical role model and resource. Requirements include at least three years of experience, current RN licensure, and required life-support certifications. A BSN is preferred. The nurse must meet annual professional contribution and performance evaluation requirements. A UPMC-approved nursing certification is required within one year of hire or transfer and must be maintained, unless an eligible graduate degree substitutes for certification under the stated conditions.
