About The Position

Archer is seeking a high-ownership Sr. Product Quality Engineer to join its Quality Engineering team at its San Jose, California facility. The role contributes to manufacturing quality and advanced process quality planning across battery, electric motor, and powertrain assembly lines. It works hands-on with manufacturing engineers, technicians, and design engineering teams to review engineering drawings, perform complex dimensional inspections, execute APQP tools, and resolve production non-conformances. The engineer supports battery pack and electric powertrain assembly, leads process quality planning and validation, applies GD&T and dimensional metrology, and performs technical failure analysis and corrective action. The role also collaborates with Powertrain Design, Battery Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality teams to translate shop-floor quality data into design and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials, or Automotive Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on quality or manufacturing engineering experience in battery, EV, or powertrain manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting high-volume automated manufacturing lines, battery pack assembly, electric motors, or power electronics.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards and 2D technical drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with dimensional metrology equipment such as CMMs, FARO/Romer arms, and surface plates.
  • Expertise executing APQP tools, including PFMEAs, Control Plans, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and RCCA/CAPA frameworks.
  • Experience navigating PLM, MES, and ERP platforms such as Teamcenter and SAP to author digital inspection plans and disposition quality notifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing process anomalies to the root physical failure mechanism in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience at an EV OEM or Tier-1 supplier, such as in battery pack assembly, automated module joining, or thermal interface material dispensing.
  • Experience with AS9145 standards, PPAP production sign-offs, and design for manufacturing/assembly (DFM/DFA) principles.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Knowledge of metric-based automotive manufacturing practices, ISO/IATF 16949, or AS9100 quality management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality engineering support for battery pack and electric powertrain assembly lines, resolving production quality issues, non-conformances, and MRB dispositions.
  • Lead APQP activities, including developing, executing, and updating PFMEAs, Control Plans, and SPC protocols for powertrain manufacturing.
  • Apply ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards to review 2D engineering drawings and perform or verify physical dimensional inspections using metrology tools.
  • Conduct technical failure analyses of manufacturing defects, investigating process mechanisms such as spot welding issues, thermal runaway or containment factors, contamination, and corrosion.
  • Oversee product quality validation, vendor component integration, and AS19102 First Article Inspections for automated and semi-automated powertrain assembly equipment.
  • Collaborate with Powertrain Design, Battery Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality teams to feed shop-floor quality data into design and process improvement loops.
