About The Position

The Senior Product Manager (SPM) at Primary Residential Mortgage, Inc. is an AI-first product architect responsible for leading the strategic transition from legacy SaaS dependency to internally built, AI-generated software solutions. This role owns the vision, specification rigor, and execution strategy for a portfolio of CRM, marketing automation, retention, reputation, and borrower engagement platforms. The SPM will lead build-vs-buy decisions, manage vendor relationships and contract negotiations, and drive executive recommendations that materially reduce SaaS spend over time. The core mandate of this role is clear: Replace approximately 50% of managed SaaS contracts within 24 months Design AI-executable product specifications Enable AI to generate production-grade systems Shift the organization toward automation-first thinking This is not a roadmap maintenance role; it is a transformation role. The SPM will define comprehensive Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) that can be enriched by engineering and executed by AI coding systems. Human engineers will guide architecture and review outcomes, but the long-term objective is AI-written, AI-reviewed software, with humans focused on validation and user acceptance testing. This individual must be scrappy enough to build, disciplined enough to operate in a regulated enterprise environment, and advanced enough in AI tooling to push the organization forward.

Requirements

  • AI-Native Product Development: Demonstrated experience building software solutions using AI coding tools (e.g., AI-assisted IDEs, autonomous coding agents, AI workflow orchestration). Must have personally shipped or prototyped systems using AI.
  • Vibe Coding & Rapid Prototyping: Comfortable experimenting, iterating, and validating ideas quickly. Understands when to prototype independently and when to formalize specifications for scaled execution.
  • Advanced Specification Writing: Exceptional ability to write structured, unambiguous, comprehensive product documentation with the aid of AI, suitable for AI execution. Understands the difference between a lightweight feature brief and a production-grade specification.
  • Automation Mindset: Obsessed with eliminating repetitive work. Prefers investing upfront in systems that compound productivity over time.
  • Strategic SaaS Evaluation: Understands the business value of CRM, marketing automation, borrower engagement, retention, and reputation management platforms. Can evaluate vendor offerings against internal build capabilities.
  • Financial Acumen: Able to analyze SaaS contracts, total cost of ownership, and long-term ROI of internal builds versus vendor renewals.
  • Enterprise Navigation: Capable of operating inside a regulated financial services environment while maintaining startup-level speed and creativity.
  • Executive Communication: Able to influence executive stakeholders with clear recommendations backed by financial and strategic reasoning, and able to fully support executive decisions, regardless of previously held positions.
  • Experience: 5+ years in Product Management, with demonstrated experience building or launching software products. Direct experience using AI to generate or materially accelerate software development is required.
  • AI Fluency: Hands-on experience with modern AI development tooling (e.g., AI coding assistants, agent-based systems, workflow automation tools). Must be comfortable orchestrating AI tools to produce real outcomes, not just ideating about them.
  • Product Documentation Mastery: Proven ability to produce comprehensive product requirements and technical specifications.
  • Strategic Leadership: Experience leading multi-year transformation initiatives or significant platform changes.
  • Industry Experience: SaaS product management or financial services experience required; mortgage lending experience preferred.
  • Analytical Strength: Strong financial modeling, cost analysis, and ROI evaluation capabilities.
  • Communication Excellence: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in specification writing and executive-level recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Builder Background: Experience working in startup or high-growth environments, particularly in technical or AI-forward roles.
  • AI Toolchain Experience: Experience with AI-enabled development environments, automation platforms, or workflow orchestration tools is highly desirable.
  • SaaS Displacement Experience: Prior experience replacing third-party platforms with internally developed systems is a strong advantage.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent practical experience is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • AI-First Product Strategy: Develop and communicate a multi-year strategy to reduce SaaS dependency through internally built AI-generated systems. Lead build-vs-buy analyses and drive executive-level recommendations for vendor replacement or renewal.
  • Automation & AI Execution: Champion an automation-first mindset. Invest time in designing scalable AI workflows, reusable specification templates, and system architectures that reduce repetitive work.
  • AI-Executable Specifications: Author detailed, structured PRDs written explicitly for AI execution. Collaborate with engineering to enrich these specs with technical constraints before they are executed through AI development tools.
  • SaaS Portfolio Oversight: Oversee a portfolio of CRM, marketing automation, reputation management, retention, and borrower engagement platforms. Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, evaluate performance, and recommend renewals, consolidations, or replacements.
  • Build vs. Buy Decision Leadership: Continuously assess whether capabilities should remain vendor-provided or be internally built. Create defensible financial and strategic analyses supporting SaaS displacement where appropriate.
  • Product Lifecycle Ownership (AI-Driven): Lead internally built products from problem identification through AI-generated development, user acceptance testing, launch and iteration.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Data Security, Compliance, Marketing, Sales, and Operations to ensure internally built systems are secure, compliant, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Performance & Value Measurement: Define KPIs for both vendor-managed and internally built platforms. Measure ROI, cost savings, efficiency gains, and adoption. Quantify SaaS spend reduction and automation impact.
  • Future Team Leadership: May directly manage Product Managers or Product Owners as the internal product portfolio expands in the future.
